I was told that S&W makes a "J" frame 2" 6 shot revolver in 22 mag,
Anyone know the model?
Also is it a hammerless gun, or does it have an exposed hammer?

Would like to get my hands on one.

As I get older it might be a fine carry gun.

I have a S&W 650. It came with the barrel marked "22 M.R.F. CTG" and two cylinders. The second one is .22LR.
Mine is engraved by Brooks Burt.

Very nice, I'll keep my eye open for one.
I was told they made a hammer less one with a 1 7/8 inch barrel,
that is what I'd like to get hold of.

I bought the exposed-hammer model, the 351PD, recently and now use it as my everyday carry. It weights 11 oz. unloaded, and truly "slips into a pocket". I think it is an outstanding CCW. For me, it is something I can easily carry, and that makes the difference: larger, heavier handguns require, for me, too much discomfort and as a result, I carried them only occasionally on my person.

Hornady Critical Defense and Speer Gold Dot, both in JHP, are designed for 22 magnum short-barrel revolvers, reducing muzzle blast and burning faster than the rifle ammo. The develop about 1000 fps of muzzle velocity, and penetrate ballistic gel to the same depth as .380 SD ammo.

Seven shots of this is, in my opinion, all the ammo I will every likely need in a self-defense situation. I cannot imagine an assailant taking these to the upper torso and not dropping or, at the very least, stopping an attack. This is serious ammo, despite its relatively small size, and I have decided that I can and will depend on it.

The 351c is my EDC. The extreme light weight and foolproof design make it very easy and safe to carry. The trigger is heavy, making it a challenge to shoot well at long distances, but it's easy enough to get a fist-sized group at 7 yards. The alloy grips make it even lighter and thinner.

In my opinion a very useful caliber for all sorts of purposes. A very good friend of mine, a woman in her late 50s, cannot handle any kind of semi-auto and cannot handle the recoil of almost any revolver so she carries a S&W J-frame .22 magnum and she is quite capable with it. I pity the fool who tries to mess with her.....

Years ago I was training at Shootin' Iron in Oklahoma, Paul Abel presiding. There was a heavy lady confined to a wheel chair who had, if I remember correctly, been assaulted coming out of her home. So, she was learning to shoot.

Shoot What? you might ask. A S&W .22LR J-frame. How effectively? you might ask. Welll, when Paul said "Now!" she whipped that thing out from a fold of her dress and put all six rounds into a group smaller than my palm, in the head of a silhouette target. It was a fast string of fire, too.

Seems to me like that would be effective . . ..

My problem is that 22 mag ammo can not be found anywhere locally, so it is not an option.

Internet search sites like AmmoSeek and GunBot can show you where 22 magnum ammo can be bought at reasonable prices. I have found that even the premium ammos like CCI, Speer, and Hornady are available that, even with shipping, are the same as (or not much more than) what I can buy at my LGS that usually has a good selection of 22 magnum.

One place this week had the 22 magnum CCI JHP 40 grain "Choot 'Em" ammo in a 200 round box for less than 30 cents per round. That is a good price in today's environment.
