Worked for a company that had a large fleet of vehicles. They were partial to chevy's. Worst one I had the misfortune to drive was a blazer with stick shift. Linkage would always be counted on to jam and then it was pull over and unjam it. Had to pick up the manager one day and by the time I had gone less than ten miles it had jammed 5 times. He was so ticked off he went straight to the guy that assigned new vehicles and the next one was ours. However having said that I have a '07 gmc sierra that has gone without any repairs and just routine maintence. Frank

For a full sized truck, F150. For a mid sized truck, '93-95 Toyota 8554 or '97-'00 Tacoma.

I drive a late '70's, mechanical everything, gas gulping 351M, F150.

Willys. A neighbor's controlled burn got out of control. He backed his Willy's up to a 2-bottom plow, dropped it in 4Low and plowed a new fire break.

I heard it said if you want a car with a pickup box, get a Chevy.

Our family had an '83 GMC 3/4 ton on the farm that just would not stop working. We've also had a few S-10's over the years that did light work around the farm. Having said all that, you have described the Colorado to a T.

This was my daily ride for 18 years.

1995 Ford F-477 Super Duty.
14,000 lbs of pure work. You couldn't even begin to believe what this thing has been through.
I retired and now she's got a new driver, but its still out there working every single day. :D

HEY that's no 1/2 ton! You're cheating Grayfox....

you have described the Colorado to a T.

I had one for a short while - 5 cyl, auto, extended cab 4x4. Needed something to drive while my '97 Jeep Wrangler was getting a new frame and paint job after the old frame rusted out. That was a great little truck. If I was ever to give up my Jeep, I'd consider a Colorado.

But I have enough into my Jeep (lift, lockers, and Hemi V-8) I gotta keep it going for a while, yet. But as my wife approaches 60, she's getting tired of climbing into it! I'll drop one tire size next time they're due.

Always wanted a GMC Syclone. Absolutely love those trucks!

I had a chance to road test (at different times) both a Syclone and a Typhoon.:D

The dealers that had them were real stingy about doing road test (That’s understandable) but I did it. Showed up with my clean 91 SS454 pickup and asked about a trade.

Those trucks were fun and sort of quick for that era. I drive Vettes also so that’s why I say those trucks were sort of fast!:)

PS never did trade the SS for ether of those trucks but keep on doing minor modes to it and it turned into a good prize winner at car shows, including Trucks at Carlisle. Truck was super clean and with 20,000 miles sold for $17,000 a couple years ago. In other post this thread I only mentioned the 4x4s that I owned!;)

Best I can recollect I've owned 6 Ford trucks and 1 Dodge Dakota. The best one overall was my '93 F-150 SWB, 4x4, 300-6cyl, 5 spd and otherwise bare bones. Solid as a rock and smooth on the road.

Even so, I really hated to get rid of this one. I'm not sure what the rearend ratio was, but it was a high one and not great for long distance interstate travel. That's the only reason I traded it. It was a beauty - 1968 F-100, SWB, 6cyl, 3-on-the-tree, posi-traction rearend and no radio. It took me anywhere I needed to go.
A Ford truck (an older one, not interested in any of the new stuff) would be my only choice if I ever felt the need for another.

My next truck is going to be a Toyota Tacoma. Currently I have a 1989 3/4 ton chevy and a 2010 GMC sierra. The Chevy was bought new and has over 400,000 miles on it. The GMC has over 120,000 with no issues yet but I can't easily get things out of the back. The new trucks are so high on the sides I have to climb up on the back bumper or bring the tailgate down to get stuff out. Not so with my old 1989.
So my next pick up will be a Toyota Tacoma. Smaller and more agile then the bigger trucks, and easier to fetch shovels and tools out of the back!

My wife says it rides like a truck. Well,

Hey! That's my truck! Except mine has a matching topper and super heavy duty grill guard. My son has a Chevy and says it rides better than it. Friend has a Dodge Ram and says the same. Had an F350 4x4 dually, will have to admit it was a pretty smooth ride too. Was looking for an F250 when I saw & drove the Tundra, just flat fell in love with it.
Ride? Heck yes, it is a truck.

Are you seeing 18mpg or is that what the EPA tells you.;)

That's the actual mileage off the computer. And it's getting better still! I have a Chrysler 300 with the 4/8 Hemi and it's getting 21. You're not required to believe it.

When my Ford Ranger dies, I'm going to take a look at the Toyota Tacoma, GMC/Chevy Canyon/Colorado, and (!) Subaru Forester.

(I don't haul shovels and tools. I have a topper, and use the truck bed like a big trunk.)

My 3/4 Ford tells me I'm getting better than what I actually do. My grandfather always brags on his getting 22 and we just have to laugh.

Ford family here and I'm doing my best to convert the misses. :D

Best PU ever was a 1967 Chevy with no bells or whistles. I'd buy one like it now if they still made them.
I'm in the market for my next pickup and can't decide. This is a GM town though and hard to find a deal or service on other makes.
The prices on pickups now are just nuts now. Even the 3 year old ones with low miles are crazy asking prices.
