I bought an immaculate Model 19 about a month ago on a local buy/sale/trade site. I have been looking for a hip holster that will do it justice and not scratch the finish. When I take it in the local shops I am deluged with offers to buy.

It's not for sale but I'm curious as to it's actual worth and figured this was the place to find out. TIA

If you purchased it "about a month ago," I would think that what YOU paid is what YOU think it is worth. And, it it is not for sale, as you said, its value to others at this point is meaningless.

The real answer is not going to be particularly helpful to you...it is worth whatever someone else is willing to pay. The real question is, are you going to deny that fine revolver it's proper place in the world...on the firing line shooting lead down range?:)

I'm heading out now, already put 150 .38 spl and 25 .357 through it.It is a great shooter and that's what I bought it for. I don't foresee trading for anything I'd rather have but if I did I have to put a trade value on it.The guy I bought it from didn't like the recoil with magnum loads but it's not bad at all.

You might want to take the trigger shoe off. They've been known to cause a gun to discharge when jammed into a holster. Just one less thing to worry about. In my view, they're best for target guns that aren't carried.

My overall track on the 19 snubbie:

Smith & Wesson 19 2-1/2 inch barrel. Revolver in .357 Magnum,.38 Special, Plus P. Blue Book of Gun Values (35th Edition) indicates between $325 in 95% condition and $650 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 94 recorded prices for this model gun from $395 to $1055 over a period of 4 Yrs 8 Mos ending November 17, 2014. The average price as of that date was $598. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $457.

The last 16 prices I have for this model since 1/1/2014 range from $525 to $825 averaging $665, so you can see the the average price is increasing.

Here's a dash five that lives at my house:

Thank you sir for a very informative post that might make me rethink my position. I love everything about this weapon but don't really need it for carry. I'm being told that nickle 19 snubbies are rare but for my purposes a more common 4"-6" would be fine so I might be up for a trade and boot.

One thing that makes me reluctant is how buttery smooth the trigger is, way better than my other snub Colt Detective Spl.

If you trade that m19 you will kick yourself latter. Look for a 4" if you want to but , if you let this one go you'll be sorry.

Any holster is going to leave scratches on nickel. I carried a 19 blue snub for 20 years in a soft nylon owb & the blue wore off on the cylinder the barrel & the trigger guard. I read that if you wipe off the carbon after shooting before you reholster it keeps the carbon from getting into the holster & acting as an abrasive. You can polish out scratches out with liquid flitz for a while but sooner or later the finish gets thin. Nothing wrong with honest wear.

Some pictures as requested

I'm still working on picture posting as you can tell.

jakenov3 is right! You'll regret selling that one at some point down the road!

Then again, sell it to me and I'll send you Christmas photo's of it every year, LOL :D

I don't even consider selling/trading anymore. I'm going to start looking for a 4" or 6" at a good price .

Have you ever thought about lining the holster you want?
I have a nice old '69 Model 10 snubbie that's really nice. I used lamb's wool to line the inside of a leather holster. It actually made the gun fit even better. The suede like backing of the lambs wool holds it right in there against the leather insides of the holster. You could secure it better if ya like.

Thank you sir , hadn't thought of that and I still haven't found a hip holster that does it justice.
