About 2 months ago some lunatic in the area we reside lost his mind and decided he would start running people off the road. When they stopped, he got out of his vehicle with a sledge hammer and not only attacked the car but also the person in the car. Nobody was killed but some cars and people were hurt by this idiot. Unfortuneately none of his victims had guns so this guy is still alive. At that point I told my wife she was going to start keeping a gun in her car. I am a Colt guy and because of that, my wife is too. We both prefer revolvers and even though I wanted to get her a Semi-Auto she is much more comfortable with a revolver and so that is what she would get. I tried two Colts but both have some issue so here is what she got as a present last night. (She wanted a 2.5" python but I am not letting her carry one in her car). I found this locally on Backpage and snagged it for $600. It will get a trigger job and a set of goodyears and will reside with the wife. I have about 70 revolvers of which all but 6 are Colts. (I have 2.5", 4" and a 6" 686-4's, a NIB 36-1 with factory target sights and a no dash model 19).

The gun had a set of Smith Combat grips as well which I offered $175 for but he wouldn't budge off $200 and since I thought this gun was going to end up in the wifes car with Pach's anyway.... Well, lets say I didn't get the Combats.

Pray your your wife never needs it. But if she ever did, that is arguably the best combat revolver ever made. I have the exact same gun and a blued counter part 19-3. The 66-1 is the work horse and the 19 is the pretty boy.dont get me wrong the 19 is equally competent, but just too pretty to be banging around in a holster all day long.

Sledge hammer attack

Sir

Nice choice for the wife and glad she is going to carry. I will let my wife read the clipping and she if she will start carrying, she has her CCW.

On another note, the attacks didn't make national news because the perp didn't use a firearm and I hear no one claiming that we need to ban sledge hammers now!!!

God bless

Kelly

Broker50: I do like her quite a bit. We have 15 pythons although only 1 is a shooter but its a nice shooting gun. Either way, this is also a nice gun and I am sure that the local smith is going to make it even better than it is:

Bananaman (Bob): As soon as its back from the smith she will give it a good workout and we already decided it will be one of the regulars at the range. She wants it to feel natural to her.

Browningcollector (Kelly): My wife doesn't have her CCW although she has said she "needs" to get it. For now the gun will be a car gun as no special permit is required for that where we live. If she wants to carry I think it will make a good carry gun as well although there are smaller/lighter choices I think this gun is a good compromise of attributes for a carry revolver. I have not heard of anybody trying to ban sledgehammers but I really wish that he had attacked somebody that was carrying. It would be one less person that my tax dollars will support.

My wife likes wheel guns too. Tried the 38,357 ,but to much kick and bad target hits. She went to SW M-30-1 3" with a 100 gr. hard cast flat-tip with 3.8 gr. of Unique for 900 fps.Way better than a 380 and she hits where she aims dead center without flinching. A perfect match.

Be sure she practices with it enough to be able to draw and fire without fumbling.

She should also get some training. We have friends who think the mere sight of a firearm will scare a felon "poop-less" and if that should fail, a warning shot is all that is needed. People who think that would be better off without a gun.

....and that is why I never go in public without a carry gun. here in tn, no permit is needed for car guns.... great law - enacted 7/14!

...
i should get car guns for my wife.... good idea!

YEAH!!!!!!!!

You must kinda' like yer wife, you bought her a better gun than a Python!

No doubt about it!!!! :)

Good plan - it doesn't matter if the theory about a gun appearing will scare a felon or not, if someone is threatening your wife with death or severe bodily injury she is so much better off with having a gun handy it's almost indescribable. Especially a GREAT GUN LIKE THAT! ;)

Why more people don't keep guns in their cars when it's legal where they live escapes me.....

GOOD JOB PARDNER!

After a half century of LE (and still going), I would not count on the sight of any firearm stopping a nut case like with the sledge hammer. I do not believe either in the sound of a SG being racked scaring anyone-except me with a rookie behind me in a stairwell. One of my guys back in Chicago asked me "how do you expect the guy to give up when the gunfire makes it hard to hear the 'police, don't move' command". Unfortunately the average BG is not afraid the police will shoot him, he is more afraid an armed citizen will shoot him. Advice to CCW and other decent folk, If he is capable of killing you, and is moving, one or the other has to stop RFN. Sometimes they can happen at the same time. Your mindset and emotional control are at least (maybe more) important than any physical skills you gain in training. If you make a tactical presentation of a firearm, you had better be prepared to inflict lethal force, and RFN! Any hesitation at all may (and probably will) telegraph your attacker that you will not shoot, and what with the price of ammo, warning shots will only convince him/her that you are no good with the weapon, or do not mean business.
I am not advocating you simply shoot because you have the chance to do so, I am saying that you must be prepared to make a rapid reasoned decision based on the situation extant, and not pick that particular time to inject emotion into the equation. Us homicide guys have a term for such individuals-the deceased victim.

A fine choice sir. However having a gun stolen from my car, I now believe in concealed carry at all times and never leaving a gun in the car.

Best of luck and stay safe.
I agree with this, but some places don't allow CC so a good lock box is in my truck for those times.
