yes, it is close to my home, 2 policemen have been killed to during the shootout; they were here to protect this very well knows satiric newspaper; there is up to now 12 dead people, a lot of wounded persons. The 2 or 3 killers have shouted islamic words before leaving the scene , said in short word that..." allah was avenged". Sad days for us.

Are the French allowed to own guns for self protection?

France has one of the highest percentages of Muslims in Western Europe, mostly due to immigration from North Africa. At the same time, they have fought radical Islamists in African countries like Mali, and been more aggressive in trying to limit "islamization", like in enforcing prohibitions for public employees to wear Islamic headgear etc., so I think that would account for France being more prone to becoming targeted by Islamic extremists.
As for French police, they are all nationally standardized and carry the SIG 2022 in 9mm. Britain is the only country that still has some unarmed officers walking around.

I love and own guns (handguns and rifles), for target shooting. We can use them for self defense under strict laws. That said no CCW in my country, but frankly in that kind of case even with a c.c gun what would you do? I am not a cop..... i will protect myself and of course my familly, no problem with that. But open the fire in a street against terrorists...hum.no abiding citizen can do that..IMO

I recommend Thayer all read "America Alone-The Rise of Radical Islam in Europe by Mark Steyn".He shows how all of Europe will be an Islamic State within 20 years by population alone due to low birth rates of ethnic Europeans and liberal immigration policies with large birth rates of the Muslims.Then Sharia will take over and the non-Muslims will have the choice to convert to Islam or die,just what is going on and ignored by the main stream media.

PS: Actual "background checks" on swarms of immigrants? As well mandate background checks on flocks of sparrows or unicorns. As my old INS mentor told me on day one, "It ain't for real, son".

We have the same root problems on our own footsteps.
The same voices crying out against the torture of terrorists are the same voices calling out to kill cops in the wake of recent fatalities.

I am not sure what you mean by "abiding citizen" but I can assure you, here in Indiana many of us would do so without hesitation. If you mean that by operation of law you are forbidden to do that, I understand.

I am Very Sorry for this cowardly terror attack on your Country Patvince. My prayers to you and all French people especially those who lost friends and family in this incident. Let us hope that that this latest example of the threat that Islam poses to Western Societies is not wasted.

I sincerely hope the gloves finally come off whether it be legislatively or militarily. Personally I believe a hybrid approach is what is required. Meaning armed Citizenry, an informed legislature with enough backbone to say, "enough already", and a Military and Police force that is allowed to aggressively seek out and deport or destroy those who play any role direct or indirect in such activities.

Agree with the above... and their borders are no more porous than what we are seeing in the US.

Very sorry to hear of this savage atrocity in Paris. We kived not too far from there for several years... It's in the middle of an area that should be much more secure than those further out from city center.

A 6ft 6in tall friend of mine--Ulrich--is in their Gebirgsjagers (their equal to our Mountain division)--and tells me a few things going on from time to time. Basically like here--the troublemakers want trouble? well--they will have it if stuff keeps happening the way it is.

Anything that merkle is for they are basically against. Merkle was raised in communist East Germany and has many of those beliefs. Anything she is against--is automatically referenced and compared to Nazis and such. From what Ulrich tells me--she is as popular with their military--just like here with ours. Ulrichs grandfather served with the same Fallschirmjager units that were responsible for taking Fort Eban Emael--and other such actions. anyway,mentioning his granddaddy--the man is 98 and still could whip a platoon of enemy soldiers single-handed.;-))

Just watched an unedited clip. Those two guys just executed the one cop.

And they did it way too calmly and professionally. No wasted shots or the least bit of panic. These guys had good training.
