I-594 type gun control spreading

I would not be surprised to see universal background check schemes implemented in more states.

Problem is, too many gun owners don't much object or support.
Seems like a loser for gun owners like me who see all background checks as a 2A infringement and a path to more gun control. It will be difficult to fight both anti-gun crusaders as well many gun owners on the same side.

"An initiative seeking stricter background checks for certain buyers has qualified for the 2016 ballot in Nevada..."

I'll be a resident on Nevada at that time, and I'll be voting against it. Go back to New York, Bloomberg, you ******* *******.

Apparently, that's what's happening. I'll keep my CPL but no more transfer/purchase checks for me. I've had so many BC's it's like standing in line at Starbucks waiting for a $25 latte. Even with a CPL I still get delayed and have to come back. In this state a BC is nothing more than a way for the state to collect it's sales tax and give dealers a way to charge me for keeping the states registry and the ATF's books.

A true stand alone one time check with verification doesn't exist. It's a white rhino.

Don't look to the NRA for help. They were basically non existent in Washington State during our fight against I-594.
I-594 has implemented defacto registration, If that is what you want, keep your head in the sand like we did here in Washington State.

Bad as MA is, we were able to defeat some of these proposals last year as the libs were drooling over a laundry list of controls following the massacre in CT. The secret is to melt the phone lines going into the state reps' offices. Call your rep, then call a dozen more. Do it again next week. You'll probably speak to an aide, but they have to log all calls, and they have much more impact than email or polls. Our local state senator was guest speaker at our club meeting, and he said his colleagues were whining about all the phone calls. In the end, most of the bad stuff was defeated.

The gun grabbers are attacking from any angle they can. If nothing else, they are imaginative and persistent. Not that it's a good thing....

I agree. Here in NH there have been and will be a lot of backdoor attacks. Our Pistol/Revolver Carry permit applications wording is changing due to this "committee and Governer" back door schemes gun law attack. NH has been a shall issue state and the application changes undermine this. There will be more attempts here to restrict our firearms freedoms.
What I worry about most is Bloomberg money and his campaign to create gun contol agendas. Our states libs will do anything for a buck.

The NRA is dependent on STATE members to organize, raise money and carry out political activities. Guys like yourself who set around waiting for somebody else to do something are the reason gun control laws pass.

I know this for a fact because 99% of the gun owners here in NY do NOTHING. DO NOT belong to the NRA and do NOT join the NY State Rifle and Pistol association.

They are gun owners but not gun rights advocates.

My post was to alert folks to the fact that you can not rely on the NRA, or any other group. You need to pull your head out of the sand and get involved, or suffer the consequences like we did here in Washington State.

I see they are holding our newly elected up for display-- Let be known that the 20 some anti gun laws he wanted passed were kicked in the dirt and thrown out-- :) but not to worry, they will be back in all their ignorant glory-- do not expect them to give up-- one thing he wanted was to revert back to the one gun a month plan that did nothing in all the years it was on the books-- I don't know anyone who even bothered to worry about it when is was in effect -- all these so-called laws that are passed without giving us a chance to vote on them are worthless in many books--- JMHO

Be careful what you ask for. The sheep are often more willing to throw the Constitution in the garbage than their representative shepherds. Bloomberg and his gun-grabbing pals understand this too well. 594 is a glaring example.

The sheep are too often not from your own state. How can we begin to restrict out of state interests from sponsoring legislation in complacent states?

George Soros apparently fueled the Ferguson riots with his own money. If we can find a way to put a steel toed boot on that stuff a lot of this **** ought to die on the vine.

Oregon is another example of the people directly giving away the 2A, when in 2000 they voted to mandate background checks on themselves at gun shows. Sad that giving up freedom makes the sheep feel safe. The 2A is viewed as merely a "loophole" to be closed.

We beat it once here in NM, but a Demo is putting it back on the docket this yr too.

It's all about control.

The NYT article referenced in the early post outlines the process pretty well. The expression "Money Talks" sums it up pretty well. The I 594 proponents had many millions in cash to work with. Bloomberg and others from outside the state donated millions. There were numerous million/billionaires in state donated millions as well.

The tactics and strategies outlined in the article will be repeated around the country. Washington was ripe for the pickings. There are enough liberal votes within 50 miles of Pike Street Mkt to swamp any state wide initiative.
The law is poorly written. Purposely I suspect, article one is full all sorts of glowing rhetoric and no specifics. The implementation is suspect and likewise unclear.

FWIW there is bill in the legislature now to repeal it. If you are a WA resident contact your legislators. Log on to the WA State web page and enter a comment on the repeal initiative.

Heard today, that there are 5 different bills in the Wa. State Legislature to make "adjustments" to I-594. I quickly scanned over the text of the bills that I found. One is an outright repeal of the whole initiative. That's going nowhere. Another bill would grant further exemptions to LE & Military. Another bill attempts to clarify definitions. That would be nice. Anyway, some Legislators are trying to modify I-594. Still have not heard of any judicial challenges.
