It happened around 7: p.m. The info I have is that it was a traffic stop. The officers were shot by a male suspect. A female that was with him apparently got scared and took off with their vehicle. The male suspect took a cruiser that was found abandoned several blocks away. The female has been caught but the male is still at large. One officer was shot in the head and killed immediately. The other died on the operating table. One of the officers is a friend and went to school with my daughter. He was married and had two children. The other was a younger officer I did not know. The Police Memorial is next Wednesday. I go every year. There will be a lot more tears at this one.

RIP brothers.

Charlie, I am so sorry that you and your department and the families in Hattiesburg have sustained such a devastating loss. I just saw this moments ago on FOX News and I immediately thought of you, then turned to here to see if you were OK.

I can give you contact info for the guy who runs ODMP, whom I had to correspond with recently when my partner died on duty.

Condolences for all, and I hope that the killer isn't caught alive.

God Bless and God's Speed. Our Lawmen and women must not be afraid to protect themselves no matter the way anyone else feels about their actions. Their lives matter as well.

I heard it on the news and thought of our Forum members down there. May these 2 Officers Rest In Peace and may the suspect be brought to justice soon !!! Prayers are sent for the officers and their families.........May God Bless Them All !!!

Charlie and the members of the Hattiesburg PD. May God surround you all with His comfort, peace and strength.

These are turning into tragic times and all must be extremely vigilant now. Those committing evil now are emboldened. We cannot let them win.

Rest in peace my brothers in arms. We have the watch.

RIP and comfort to friends and family.
This news is getting all too common.
I hear the platitudes and "horror" expressed when this happens, but I fail to see the action to turn things back around towards sanity.
Where's the Zero tolerance for this?
