Has any one had a armorer install the Apex kit for them ??

Wondering what kind of charge there would be. Articles I have read say its a 30 to 40 minute job for someone knowing what to do, which I don't ! and don't have the tools either.

So would 50 dollars be a fair price to pay? Too much or too little ?? Above the price of the kit? Or will they add a percentage of profit to the kit also if they supply it.

Finding the complete kit around $129.00.on line. I'm interested in the carry kit with 4-5 pound trigger pull.

I have a MP 40c ordered and will put some rounds through it but it sounds like the Apex Trigger kit is almost a must have !

If you buy it from 'ajames' at xdman.com, he'll install the upper parts for free... Just send him your slide amd he'll have it back to you within a week after he receives it. The lower parts, you could do yourself (having never taken a pistol apart before in your life), in under a half hour, just D/L the Apex video from their site. It's very thorough.

James does great work. While James mostly does XD work, he owns a Shield and loves it.
If you're going to have someone take your slide apart to install the kit, you may as well get the night sights done at the same time as well.

Oh... James also does great Slide painting.
Here the link to his site: Smith & Wesson

Just a thought, but why don't you give that 40c a chance right out of the box?

And I mean a fair chance. 3-400 rounds down range would be a very fair test.

Every out of the box M&P I have shot in the last 5 years had a decent trigger that improved with use. My FS Pro9 was 4.6 lbs out of the box.

In comparison, the Shield 9 I just got a month ago-6.2 lbs. Which is fine in a carry pistol.

I am also one of those shooters that doesn't give two hoots about reset. But that's me, and it's ultimately your money and choice.

If you guys think the M&P triggers are so much junk from the factory, you should try a Glock with the NY-1 or NY-2 trigger.

You'll change your tune in a hurry.

I will see what my trigger is like after 3-500 rounds down range, and whether I like it or not before embarking on any changes. It will probably be my carry gun in the future After I know it is reliable and has no know problems.

Some of the MP's I have shot I didn't like the trigger pull one being a range gun with several k rounds thru it . So I am mainly checking now to see what future cost might be. Will need to feed the cookie jar ..

Good idea to shoot it before modifying it. At least then you will know how much of an improvement it is ;). Regarding cost, why not call around to local gun shops and smiths. You might find that a shop that sells the kit and will install it for about the same price you can order the kit online. I think $50 would be a minimum price to do anything anymore. I wouldn't pay it but I've put a half dozen Apex kits in. The cost to send your pistol somewhere to install it (and then ship it back) would be prohibitive in my opinion. Good luck.

I bought mine from a great little shop near me, duty/carry kit, for $92 and the armorer there installed it at no additional charge.

Before I figured out I could do it myself, my LGS installed the DCAEK in my 9c for $25. I have since installed the DCAEK and FSS myself and it's not difficult.

I just bought a M&P 9C and it really has a nice trigger and a good audible reset. Try one out first.

I bought mine off Amazon and the smith at the indoor range installed them for $35. I had a couple of M&Ps done buy him. Don

I will shoot 3-500 rounds through my pistol the first 2 months before deciding to do any thing to it. And even then would be more interested in just smoothing the trigger out rather then lowering the trigger to 4# or under, if I could get one between a 5 to 6.0 which have heard a few getting on the new ones.

But its a wait see for sure. Maybe I will be lucky and get a trigger that I like . But if not there are ways to achieve that from my reading with out getting a competition trigger feel I wouldn't want to carry .. My CZ& Series 88 all stainless steel has a 3.4 pound trigger. Have never had it checked to be sure but was told buy the dealer I bought it from . For 10 bucks he went through the trigger and honed/polished everything and set it up to use for competition shooting and that's what the trigger came out to be .. no kits back in 88. It was the same pistol model both he and his wife shot competitively and at that time many others shot that pistol also. Said mine came out smoother then his had.

But have double tapped it a few times and its very easy to do so wouldn't want to carry it .. but good range gun and fun to shoot which is why I bought it

I was in the same boat a couple of years ago. I didn't know anything about disassembling triggers, sear blocks etc... I spent some time watching videos on youtube (the best one is from Apex Tactical). I bought a punch set, an armor's block and the Apex trigger kit from Amazon.
I watched the video as I worked on the trigger. Starting and pausing as I went. It couldn't have been any easier.
I save a bunch of money and gain a lot of knowledge and experience.
I did the same thing when I assembled my AR lower.

Though the punch set and armor's block will cost more then having someone do this one pistol I'm thinking abut doing it m self also . I will see how it feels after shooting 300-500 rounds. It should show signs of what kind of action it will end up with and then decide . Was just wondering the cost to have someone else do it.

I'm not even sure which kit I would want to put in . Just the spring kit sounds like it will be 5.5# and that is where I would like the trigger to be.

So still some more video watching and blog reading ahead.

This punch set.

Will set you back $43, and you gain some experience. I'd be surprised if you could find a Armor that will do it for that. In my area SF Bay Area I would bet it would cost close to $100.

Think your in high price Cali and not doubting it would cost that much any where along the west coast .. nowhere close to that around here I'm finding out .. Free from someone I don't trust to up to 75 the highest. Much depends which kit and anything else done at the same time.

and the block and punch set with shipping is probably closer to 60-70 then 43..

Other things like additional usage of the block and punches or just a one time use. I'd like to have a sight pusher but can't justify the cost for just doing one weapon.

I was able to install the forward set sear kit in less than 15 minutes the first time I did it. Maybe 45 minutes for someone who's never done anything to any gun ever.

No special tools are necessary. I used a $10 set of punches, a small hammer, a wood block and a pair of needle nose pliers.

Since then I have purchased the Apex armorer's block. It's a really helpful tool, but certainly not necessary.

I would install it for free, but you'd have to travel here. ;)

Free shipping.

I paid $50 for my first apex trigger job at my local gun shop. Decided to try and do it on my own the second time. I got it in there...but by the time I bought the punches/armor block it didn't save me any money. I DO want to be able to work on guns so the cost for the equipment is a wash in my mind. Looking back on it, it was a neat to do my own work but I'd probably have my local shop do it again next time. xD
