I'm learning that there are so many times and places I should not carry a gun I'm going to have to start making a list.

Carrying a gun in the home or having access to a gun in certain rooms like a bathroom indicates paranoia or otherwise suffering a mental disorder.

Never carry a gun if you might have to stop somewhere that requires the gun being left in the vehicle. Leave the gun at home.

Don't carry a gun to social gatherings. Someone at the party might be offeded by guns. Leave gun in vehicle before going in. Ooooops don't do that either.

To bear arms is a God given right, but carrying a gun in a church is profane.

Do not open carry. Only idiots open carry.

Great post. They can't be offended by what they don't know is there. They can't steal what they can't find. Unless a business is doing pat-downs or has a metal detector at the door, if I absolutely can't avoid said business for some reason (like visiting someone in a hospital), they can just assume I'm not carrying against their wishes. If a life-death situation arises while I'm at that business, a misdemeanor civil infraction for carrying where prohibited will be the least of my concerns. It's always better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.
As for church, I'll leave it up to God to judge whether I'm profane for worshipping while armed. :-)

After having concealed carry permits for 20 years, I feel I am pretty adept at avoiding my weapon 'printing' or being noticed. I've had plenty of friendly conversations in public with law enforcement personnel while legally carrying and I've never got 'that look' from any of them. Sometimes I have to carry less gun than I prefer, but any gun (that you are proficient with) is better than no gun at all.

And what I carry rig I use while in the shower is nobody's business. Just because I think they're out to get me doesn't mean they're not. :-)

I carry wherever it's not prohibited by law (although I don't agree with that, either). It's absolutely ridiculous that most legislation assumes the criminal element cares what the law is. That type of feel good legislation has passed only to appease the liberal progressive communist regime.

Like any tool, it's useless if it's not with you when needed. My own siblings think there's something wrong with folks that carry. Nothing wrong with exercising your rights. Use them or lose them.

I have never "needed" a gun, and have been perfectly capable of defending myself without one, but if worse comes to worse it's worth being prepared. Guns stuck in the safe don't do much good.

I ignore the lame signs and policies claiming company policies have precident over my livelihood. It's none of their business.

I DO carry in social situations, if/when in a church or in several other places mentioned here b/c I can't accurately predict when I might need my gun. Nobody knows I'm carrying and I intend to keep it that way. It's nobody's business but mine.

LOL... This got me thinking of the old Jeff Foxworthy "You might be a Redneck" list.

  • If you think Common Sense should cover where and when you can/should carry a gun... you should not carry the gun. :D
  • If you think that people in a restaurant will panic by the sight of your firearm on your side... you should not carry the gun. :D

BTW: The 'Whataburger' Hamburger chain corporate office made a statement the other day, saying that when TX goes Licensed Open Carry in Jan, they will NOT allow OC in their Franchises. :(

Sorry for the Hijack... Back to the list!!

One of the mottoes of 4chan was "only a fool would take anything said here seriously", and no matter what you think of such a site or the other seedier places on the net, I believe the words are worth repeating and are relevant to some extent everywhere, and in every forum. Yes, there is a lot of good information here, some people who really do add useful information or insight into the topics discussed, and there is definitely something to learn in this fine forum. That being said, one must also ignore a lot of the insane or inflammatory comments made by the peanut gallery, or introduced by sly trolls.

Some threads and topics may be about more scientific, objective topics, in which certain facts may be presented and taken into consideration. However, there are an endless amount of "Do you x?" "Do you think y is a good idea?" or the very so classic, slam your skull into the wall stupid "x is better than y"threads that are a cancer upon every web forum since the days of Usenet. They are purely "fun" threads and topics, intended to start flame wars, rile up subjective opinions, and create general mayhem. There might be a few brave and wise men who venture into such threads to offer a few bits of intelligent, objective advice into such topics, but you will soon realize that bulk of it is flame posts by very agitated people who hold very strong opinions about such a topic, or flaming trolls who enjoy the whole hot mess.

In short, in an open forum, you will see the free ideas of many diverse people. This will cause conflict, which inevitably leads to flaming and name calling. This will cause the less than reasonable people to escalate things to rather uncivil levels, and leave the more reasonable people leave felling insulted or alienated.

If you carry a .22lr you are crazy for carrying a toy. Carry a .44 magnum, you are an out of control vigilante, looking for a fight, with no regard for those who stand behind your victim. You like to carry a reload for your carry pistol? That's fine... if you're Rambo. Keep a gun in your bathroom? What are you, a wanna be James Bond? If you don't put onions into your chili mix, you are not only wrong about making chili, you are obviously insane with a break with reality for disagreeing with me.

1. Ignore inflammatory threads
2. Ignore inflammatory posts
3. Realize this is an internet forum where anyone, regardless if they own a firearm or not, carry one, leave one in the house for self defense, if they are a mall ninja, a gun controller, or wayward troll, can post whatever they want, not all opinions here are intelligent or relevant, and all posts should be taken with heaping spoonfuls of salt.

If you ever find yourself wound up, step away from the keyboard, and go do something productive somewhere else. Don't respond to trolls of flamers, don't make controversial threads popular.

...but, but if we don't carry our guns anymore think of all the subject we WON'T be able to discuss anymore: Open carry vs concealed, chambered vs unchambered, reciprocity laws, adequate capacity! NO!!! It's too much to give up! I WILL CONTINUE TO CARRY...EVEN IN CHURCH! :p
