How much would drilling and tappping a 19-4 impact value?

I have a good to vg condition 19-4, 6", nickel, with Target grips, hammer, trigger and sights. It is not drilled and tapped. The model 19 started to be D&T'd with the 19-7. If I were to D&T it for a scope mount, how much do you think it would negatively impact the resale value of the pistol?

Well considering you have all three T's and the rarer 6" nickel model, I'd say it would affect value considerably. A lot of us look for those guns and don't want them altered. You can do whatever you want to your gun, it's yours, but I know I wouldn't personally want a model 19 that's drilled/tapped. My opinion is it would knock at least $250-300 off value. So say it's a $700 gun today, with being tapped it would be worth $400 to me. Maybe less depending on condition and how you drilled it. I've seen a lot of poorly done drilled/scoped revolvers.

Keith, if you really want something other than what you have, sell it, and use the funds to buy what you really want. That way two of you will be much happier.

I am pretty sure there are no drill scope mounts available for the older non D&T Revolvers.

Thanks all, that's what I was expecting to hear; I won't D&T it. I had not heard of a non-drill option. Anyone have more information on a non-drill scope mount for a 19-4? Thanks, Keith

I think that part of the answer depends on your definition of "good to very good".With a nickel gun, that could mean a nice one,or a decent shooter grade. If a shooter grade, what's d+t going to knock off of it? $50?
I will, however, agree with the others.Sell it and buy what you want or need.If only 19s at the -7 level have factory d+t,you might wish to consider another model.
