How safe do you feel anywhere now?

I try to be watchful when travelling.

Much as shouldazagged mentioned, I'm not going to hang out in the dubious part of town at 2 in the morning any more, nor am I going to strut like I'm looking for a fight, day or night. You know the ole adage..."An ounce of prevention".......to me is better than a pound of cure....
I don't believe that those eight women who got shot (seven DOA) at that Tinley Park, Illinois Lane Bryant store thought they were taking a walk on the wild side. Nor do I believe that the people standing in line at the Ft. Hood PAC thought they were in a combat zone... until that nameless cur started shooting them.

Not afraid.

My lifestyle is very different from many of you. I have carried a gun for some 40 years; but I survived 20 some years without ever carrying one.

I carry about 95% of my time but my travels take me to many places where I cannot. Prague, Australia, and Canada to name a few places I have visited.

I patronize BIG cities, large stadium events, and genuinely like people. I eat out and go to bars; I like public events. I fly commercially on a regular basis.

I do wonder how those of you who aver you are never unarmed managed to navigate life before you carried a gun.

For me, bottom line is if a situation is survivable, I will survive.

Be safe.

I have carried a gun and a knife with me every day that I could since I was able to . . . Right at 32 years now for the gun, and 40 for a knife. Pops said I couldn't have a knife until I was ten. I navigate life just fine when I have to check my gun, which isn't very often. As I've worked hard to teach my son, I'm the weapon. The gun is a tool.

In my 80 years, I've had six occasions where my possession of a gun prevented a serious crime. I've never fired a shot at anyone or even pointed a gun at anyone. I've never been sorry that I had a gun handy when needed.

Can't say I feel less safe. More vigilant, yes. I carry where I can. Lessons learned:
Don't go in harm's way lightly. If you must, go in ready.
You can't anticipate random acts of badness. Fearing them is useless.
An unloaded gun is a crappy club.
Enjoy your freedoms. It's the best act of defiance.
FWIW.

I feel safe. If I felt unsafe, I would move. I certainly don't criticize the carrying of weapons, but I'm personally not interested in going places where I think I need weapons. Yes, bad things can happen anyplace, but I'm not going to live in fear of it.

Lived as a kid in the gang areas of of Los Angeles, then became a peace officer from 1970 to 1993. Those years were far more violent than now. Look at the UCR for the last 60 years and you will find that the murder rate in NYC (for example) was hovering around 1,800 per year in the 70s-80s, whereas it now is fewer than 500 (that's off the top of my head; haven't looked it up lately).

Several posters here have it right: be vigilant (and armed), don't watch the national news, and live your life to the fullest.

I carry a gun all the time and I pay attention to what's going on around me. I try to use common sense and avoid known places where bad things can happen, ie: pumping gas late at night, using the ATM after dark. I am responsible for my own safety.

I carry in my truck, but I've never CCed yet. So far, never had a reason to. And I go to WalMart regularly.
  1. What would you consider a "reason" to carry concealed?
  2. How would you know when you needed to before you did?
  3. What would you do if such a situation arose BEFORE you started carrying concealed?
  4. What danger do you expect in your truck which could not present itself outside of it?
I'm not saying you have to carry, only that I'm not clear on your reasons for not doing so.

I've always felt safe. I just don't go to places that are obviously dangerous.
  1. What's an "obviously dangerous" place? What are the criteria?
  2. What if it's "obviously dangerous" to somebody else, but not you?
  3. I suspect that I grew up in three places you might consider "obviously dangerous".
Did the people in the World Trade Center on 09/11/2001 consider it "obviously dangerous" on 09/10/2001?

I'm not sure how a concealed carry weapon would have made a difference in the World Trade Center.

I doubt that it would, but that wasn't the point.

Should the people working there have considered it an "obviously dangerous" place on 09/10/2001?

And what DOES constitute an "obviously dangerous" place. Who makes that determination?

I always feel safe. At home I'm equipped with everything from M4s, SKSs, Mossbergs, Sigs, berettas, Rugers, Smith n Wessons. N more.
Out of the house I'm a radical Islamist worst nightmare carrying serious 45 cal Glock when not carrying my Sig P320. I'm not cringing for any of the *******s.
