Risk Assessment

My 3913/14 and an extra magazine is good enough for me in my "burb of the Burgh"...... road trip into the great unknown....... generally upgrade to a 6906........ one extra 15rd magazine on my belt (28rds) and a second 15rounder in the car.

Apparently that cop believes that the doctor in Connecticut whose home was invaded by Hayes and Komisarjevsky is UNreal... along with his slaughtered wife and daughters.

Cheshire, Connecticut, home invasion murders

It was a quip from one ghetto cop to another. Don't read more into it than what it was...

The point is that I go to several armed home invasions per year and get the details of many more. I am unaware of any in the 10years I have been doing this that were not related to the victim's criminal activities in my immediate area.

Any time I hear something like that, I read into it what's there.

I'm aware of a number of home invasions against "real" people, including one in the Houston area where they inadvertently targeted a former Biet Dong Quan. Unlike the Connecticut example, it didn't go well for the home invaders.

Back in the '60s, there was a rash of home invasions in our neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. My father installed metal gates and a prop rod at the front door. We were in the heart of the ghetto. We weren't selling drugs, nor were a lot of the victims.

If you take Amtrak west from Cleveland, when you hit Chicago you'll see the multitude of homes with iron fences, iron gates on the doors, and bars on the windows. Are ALL of them "unreal people"? Or are they just normal people who have for YEARS been left disarmed, unprotected and helpless against the criminal element, and had no recourse other than passive defense to prevent home invasions?

If you don't want assumptions made about yourself, don't make them about others.

Typically the further from home I know I am traveling the more rounds I want to bring. Size of the bullets is less important to me than number of bullets, to an extent.

I never feel "out gunned" with 13 rounds of 380 hollowpoint, but some people will always tell you these small calibers can't get the job done. Truth be told if 13 rounds of 380 doesn't get the job done then I messed up and the gun is not to blame.

I generally agree that hood rats don't typically leave their hood. They also typically only mess with each other. I remember one conversation where one cop was asking another if he heard about an armed home invasion that happened the night before. The other cop asked if it was a dope rip and the first replied, "well ya, real people don't get home their invaded."

However, when they decide to leave their area looking for trouble they seem to be in groups and loaded heavier than what you would see in regular "street violence" that occurs in the hood.

The "lone gunman" is a foreseeable threat in the "good" areas. A lot of them seem to bring long guns which makes me want more than a J to counter them.
This is why I don't have different guns for different seasons or areas. 24/7/365 I carry one gun, G19. It works where a J frame works and it works where something more is needed.

As a Sheriff of my acquaintance put it "you're more likely to be convicted of excessive force if you shoot someone with a 1911 or Glock, then if you're using a revolver or .380 auto."

Civilians are not peace officers, why are we carrying military grade sidearms concealed? Are we looking for trouble??

Glocks come in 380. Is that ok? A 1911 is over a 100 years old. A 9mm, which can be shot out of a Glock, or out of a revolver or a Luger or a Mauser or a Browning...etc.. was patented in 1902. How far back can I go before its not "military grade"?

I can't figure out if he has problems with a caliber or the look of a gun

All I will say is that if I am in a situation where I am confronted with violence and fear for my safety, there is no firearm I can put in my hands that I would think of being excessive. Man, if a Glock is excessive, what does he think of a 12 ga. full of 000.

Any chance you could get the good sheriff online with us to share more of his legal tips?

I carry 158gr bullets in my revolver and 115gr bullets in my "military grade" "HUGE GLOCK". I'm curious. Isn't the revolver about 40gr more excessive?
No, the revolvers have the "revolver bullet weight exemption". That's why I'm going to start carrying my 4" 29-2.

Actually, I'm thinking about carrying a Smith .500 to take even better advantage of that exemption.

I wonder if it applies to a GAU-8...

As long as you don't do 45-70. That's military grade.........circa 1880

I've learnt my lesson well, it didn't take but one time for this old man to catch on...

Some say, "That's an old man's gun or that's to heavy to carry!"

To that I reply, "That how I got to be an old man."

.

Sweet........ nickel or hard chrome?

Once you drill out all those big holes in the barrel and cylinder...... probably not a heavy as my 4" 18...............

I can't shoot the .500 very well. After the first shot the revolver starts canting to the right due to the imbalance of the cylinder having fewer excessive force bullets on the left side. I'm ok on the last shot though.

I was thinking about wearing a thicker soled shoe on my right foot but that might be a liability in court after a SD shooting.
I wonder if the sherrif has any advice on that?

Back when I was in 5th grade in the '60s, I saw a picture of an M-16A1 with a gyroscopic stabilizer on it. Maybe you could try something like that.

Of course you could try a steady-cam type mount like the MG-42s had in "Aliens".

Opened the link...............

I was "..........BLINDED by the light....." WOW!!!!

Now you know you can never carry that gun ...... because if you ever had to use it..... it would spend years in a police evidence room, be engraved with some "Dicks"* initial........ and finally some cop would take a liking to it.......cus it"s got his initials engraved on it........ and it would never be seen again.......................

I read it on the internet!!!!!!!

:D

*That slang for "Detective"....... for those of you born after 1960.
