5-Screw M&P Snubbies = Cool

These are both post-war guns with all matching numbers. Anyone notice the difference between one of them and all the other post-war guns guns?

I knew not to open this thread. All these beauties got my fever up again for a round butt, post war transitional. Maybe one day.

Close: it's S868055.

It looks a little better in this photo than it does in reality. You can see some of the crown and muzzle wear leaking around to the side of the barrel, and there are some scuffs and scratches elsewhere.

Winner winner Chicken dinner! I have not seen too many with the pre-war style checking. I assume they might be left over pre-war grips.

John:

I would have to agree with you that you don't see many with the pre-war style shape and checkering. I do however find it interesting that in the post right after yours (post 23) Hardware posted another RB snubbie with pre-war stocks.

BTW - do your stocks number to the gun they are on?

Thanks,

I got this one from an older guy walking a gun show. Three or four guys were looking at it and I heard the old guy say I won't take any less than $275.00 for it. I could see it was pretty nice and just fidgeted around til they handed it back to him. I asked to see it and never let it back out of my hands. I gave him his $275.00.

Have a 12-2 S&W K-frame SN D 6579xx how to find date of manufacture. Bought as a hide-gun when I entered law enforcement 1979. Shot to qualify back then and not since.

D 6579xx:
D510,001 – D659,901………Late 1973 – Early 1974 (manufacture).
Many are leery of Model 12 revolvers with the alloy frame. They sometimes are seen as being cracked on the frame under the barrel (where the barrel screws in).
