It wasn't really even on my radar but there was a sale this weekend where they had them for $199 for the wood stock carbine model and I could not pass it up. Just brought her home today. :D

Got my first one back in 1968. . .great gun! With the exception of the Ruger Number 1, it's the only Ruger I would advise anybody to purchase. Amazing how a company can manage to produce two of the greatest guns ever manufactured and fail on everything else.

What a shame, you've really limited yourself because Ruger has made and continues to make a number of very good models of firearms other than the Number 1 and the 10/22 that I would highly recommend.

Ruger makes its own 25 rd mags that are very good, also the hot lips steel lips have be very good. They also make a Charger, which is essentially a 10/22 with a cut down barrel and stock, which makes it officially a pistol. It has a bi-pod and scope mounts, no iron sights and its a hoot!

Stick with Ruger magazines. They come in 10, 15, 25 and 25x2(2mags end to end as 1 unit. They work in their bolt actions too. And they are not picky on type of ammo. Folding stocks, etc. tons of gear for them.. They are fun and handy.

Wow----must have had a bad experience somewhere along the line???

Congrats on your new 10-22! After ignoring the 10-22 for many years I started getting interested in them last year. They will shoot very well with good ammo. The thing that seems to be the best single upgrade is to install a Volquartsen target hammer assembly. It is a drop in part and can be had from Brownells for around $40. It will greatly improve your trigger pull. We have been having a blast with the 10-22s but be warned, we now have five.

If you want to have a really good time with your 10-22 find an Appleseed shoot near you. If you can shoot Rifleman on that course you will be shooting well. Here is their website:

Congratulations! I love my 10/22. In fact I'm taking it to the range later this morning. My mods include:

- Tech Sights (an absolute must IMO before anything else).
- Upgraded trigger work by Swampfox
- Extended mag release lever
- M1 Carbine stock with sling

Fun little 22. That was my first firearm I owned. Got it for Christmas about 16 years ago. Still going strong. I have made a few mods to it since then.

Nice buy! Check out Brimstone Gunsmithing if you want the trigger worked. I have their intermediate trigger job on my 10/22 and Charger, and have been very pleased with the results. Many go with the basic trigger job and I haven't heard any complaints.

I've often wondered why they keep making 10/22's. I thought everybody already had a couple of them. :)

Glad you got yours, I think you'll be happy with it.

!0-22

I bought my 10-22 in the late 60's. Still have it and haven't done anything to it but a 2 1/2 power scope. My sons has almost everything done to it you can. His shoots no better than mine. Looks mean tho.
