So I called S&W, they wont sell a replacement barrel for the 15-22. I have to send the gun in, pay for a barrel, pay for shipping, and pay for their work!

I'm better off waiting for a great sale and just buy another gun.

I don't blame them for not selling a barrel. What if you install it wrong and cause injury to yourself? Liability, and reducing it to minimize lawsuits, is the rule of the land right now.

if the barrel needs warranty service, they will take care of you. If you damaged it by negligent or willful actions, it isn't their fault and they shouldn't be held accountable. If you just WANT another barrel, they have never sold 15-22 parts like that. Shouldn't be surprised.

They said 5 month wait. I will wait for a sale and buy a new one.

I don't quite understand,if you are not happy with S&W and not wanting to wait for service, I agree is a long wait, why would you buy another and risk having the same issues??
Ditto

Two thumbs down, a non complimentary expletive and verbal complaining..........but you are going to keep buying their products?

There must be something to this story you are not telling us

BTW, I 100% agree that certain parts be restricted from sale to customers that are not certified gunsmiths or Factory trained Armorers, these are not Lego sets.

Its my kids gun. What else should i get instead. I doubt i will get anything else from S&W anytime soon.

2 trips for them to repair a 15-22.

Now 5 months for a 10 minute job. That is total ****.

Yep something seems off. Not the whole story for sure!!!!!!
Lol service is **** but I want to buy another one.
So what is the story?

I'm changing my post, removing the incorrect info that I posted.

I do agree that it's a shame that S&W doesn't sell barrels.

The bright spot is that maybe a custom barrel manufacturer will step up....

I have two 15-22s just because of their asinine parts policy. Why 15-22s? Because I shoot NSSF Rimfire Challenge and the 15-22s run more reliably than the 10-22s or AR conversions I see. I take a second complete upper to matches so I have spare parts and if I need stuff I can't buy I can put the broke stuff on the lower I left original and send it back under warranty while still having a functioning match rifle. I have about the same money tied up in two 15-22s as I'd have in one good AR conversion.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed but so far I haven't needed parts. This is my second year shooting the NSSF series.

They can't sell the barrel, because the headspace should be checked after installation. Nobody would expect to call Remington and order a new barrel for their .308 rifle.

But we aren't talking about a Remington .308... we are talking about an AR style rifle. The AR, and the 15-22, are designed for the shooter to disassemble down to the smallest of parts. Removing a barrel on an AR or 15-22 is no big deal, assuming you have the proper tools.

It makes no sense to me for S&W to not sell barrels. But that being said, it is their company & they can do as they please and I won't hold it against them. I bought a spare 15-22 when they were so cheap last year so if necessary, I can rob parts from the spare. Doubt it would be necessary as this is not a home defense gun... just a plinker.

There is is always this:
Bushmaster Carbon 15-22 Rimfire Rifle-781756 - Gander Mountain
I have been seriously thinking about one of these. I know bushmaster sells parts if they are needed. The only thing I don't like about is that it has a specialty barrel nut, so you can't replace the hand guard, unless it is a hanguard that uses a delta ring. I hope some day an aftermarket company will make an aftermarket barrel nut, Tacticool cough cough!!

Ruger 10/22 is the answer you seek.

You can parts and barrels for orther guns?

Yes, I can buy parts for guns, but not barrels. Try and get any firearm maker to sell you a barrel directly. I suppose it may be possible to buy a semi-auto pistol barrel, but a rifle barrel is something I can't imagine any maker selling.
