BUGs how many carry them?

Nope, even when active I rarely carried a bug and never off duty - I fully understand the reasoning, but based on the probability of needing it I chose not to - especially since most of my career was at the management/executive level.

Now that I am retired, I've never contemplated carrying a second gun. In fact, before joining this site, I ve never heard of non-LEOs carrying a bug - there are some carrying 3+. I always wonder if these folks are balanced individuals. To each his/her own, but I think to many, it's more of a novelty than a necessity.

Never heard this before ....... which states?????

As a non LEO if I ever carry a BUG....I expect my primary will be a long gun! :D

In California the CCW law states:

The license must specify the particular firearm the person is authorized to carry, giving the name of the manufacturer, the serial number, and the caliber, as well as the licensee’s name, occupation, residence and business address, age, height, weight, color of eyes and hair, and the reason for desiring a license to carry the weapon.

New Mexico limits carriers to toting one handgun. Sheesh.

I don't always carry two guns, but every day at work I have my duty revolver, a S&W Model 686-6, and my BUG, a S&W Model 642-2 (replacing my S&W Model 37). I always carry the 642-2. If leaving the neighborhood, I usually carry my 3 inch S&W Model 13, but sometimes the 37 comes out of retirement to lighten my load.

I carry two because (1) there might be more than five of them, (2) I might miss, and (3) I don't carry speed loaders off duty.

At work, my Glock 17 is my BUG to my AR. My Glock 26 is my BUG to my Glock 17.

Off duty, usually just my 36, SP101 or my Colt Mustang. I'm not that exciting of a guy. Don't expect much excitement to find me that one of those can't handle.

I carried a Walther PPK in an ankle holster when on duty. Now I carry a GERBER tactical pen, an SOG fast opening knife with 4" blade, and a hardwood cane in addition to my CS 45. LEO's carry an extra gun when working, I wonder why civilians want or need to do so? Perhaps someone is out to get them.

Typical LEO mentality. Nothing special about your needs to carry more then one protection resource over anyone else. The same people who would be out to get you will be out to get anyone. I would not be surprised if you thought that civilians should not be allowed to protect themselves by any means.

Most restrictive weapon laws and Second Amendment violations are supported by LEO's and their unions or Associations, Bargaining Groups, ect.

I'm not that exciting of a guy, either. The problem is that if excitement finds me, I'm generally 45 minutes from "the authorities" if the weather is good. It's not "over the river and through the woods," but there are a couple of good sized creeks running through the woods.

"For me it's the oxymoron, 'You're ready if it ever happens, but it never will.'"

That's not an oxymoron; it's a logical fallacy.

That's a pretty broad brush.

Hey, Puffy Chest, if you have beef with the post by KSDeputy fine, but please don't try and represent that you know what typical LEO mentality is. Clearly you have no idea. Our state-wide agency doesn't have a union, you don't know me or my colleagues.

Union, Association, Bargaining Group, ect., its all semantics but amounts to the same thing.

Puffy Chest at your service.

Just read about The Alabama State Trooper Association a rose by any other name spells (UNION)

I sure hope we don't fall into the Internet meme of "if you carry less than I do, you're a sheeple, and if you carry more than I do, you're a paranoid mall ninja."

Speaking just for myself, I learned to carry backup as a young patrolman in the early 1970s. Before that decade was out, I had become comfortable carrying backup on my own time, and stayed with the concept.

These days, it's most comforting when I'm traveling with my significant other, a state and regional IDPA shooting champ who is licensed to carry in 30-some states, but not everywhere we go. At the moment we're visiting a state where I'm legal and she's not. If there should be trouble, the doctrine of competing harms allows me to hand her a gun, and her to take it, if an exigent circumstance arises. For me, that's reason enough for the second gun.

Though, with many more reasons for the practice to be valid, I'm also happy to have the second one along when I'm alone.

Just another two cents...

For civilian CCW, carrying a BUG would probably have to depend on your environment. I carry one on the job, but it can be a challenge to conceal two pistols during some seasons or certain civic or social functions - I.e. at a wedding a couple of years ago in a tux - M&P 45 in a cheap, slipping belly band and a 640 in my boot.

Except they lack key hallmarks of a labor union such as collective bargaining roles on behalf of their membership, thereby making it beyond a real stretch to call them a union.

Of particular interest from their by-laws: "This association shall not have any affiliation, directly or indirectly, with any labor union, either actively or passively, at any time." I suppose that's just semantics too. And there's more in their by-laws forbidding anything that might remotely resemble union behavior.

The information above is public. It is posted on a public website and available to the general public. The poster on this forum does not necessarily represent any personal affiliation with the ASTA or any agency with which it has interests.

You got me ghstrydr164. Congratulations. Now please go troll another group.

Final post on this issue and in this thread. Thank you.

I had a bit of trouble once, literally getting the bum rush and two bums tried torush me and rob me. Our most excellent moment together was interrupted by the arrival of other people. However, during our time together I could not reach the .45 on my hip as it was under a coat. I could get my hand on the J frame in my pocket though.

After that, I went out and bought a Galco horizontal shoulder holster and left my coat open a bit.

These days I like to carry a small .22 auto in addition to...whatever. I hate squirrels. It also might be useful for other things.

I started carrying a second gun years ago thanks to reading Mr. Ayoob.
