I carry a BUG when the feeling strikes me. Then there was the time, to prove a point I had on 4 full sized 45 autos and a J-frame in my pocket and a 32 auto on my ankle, All this at church! This proved that the greeters didn't know bean about IDing people at the door. I gave all three greeters a hug, yet at the security meeting that afternoon, I pulled off my sweater and they were surprised, as there were guns all over me!
Normally, I just carry one in warm weather and two in cold.

I often carry a gun where it is not particularly accessible to my left hand. On some of those occasions I carry a gun for my left hand. On yet other occasions I will carry a backup gun. In very cold weather I used to occasionally carry more than three, for reasons of access. I don't remember whether or not I carried a backup, also. I guess when you are carrying four or more guns, you are unlikely to need a backup.

Carry a big gun for a defense but then carry a small gun in the event the big gun quits working? If the little gun will get the job done when the big one quits working it will also do the job if you are not carrying any other gun so why carry the big gun. It makes sense to me if I need a big gun to get a job done I also need a big gun for a spare. In my opinion in the real world a BUG (back up gun) should be equal to the primary gun. Just my idea and thoughts and worth what you paid for it. Larry
Texas law is silent as to number, so no limit. I do know some states only allow one, and I suppose it could be two in some states. Anyone else live in one of those restrictive states? Just curious.

I carry my Model 60 in my right front pocket. When I decide to carry something else I will leave my 60 in my pocket and my Glock 19 will be my bug. I guess its a little backwards. Recently my back has been giving me trouble so my 60 in my pocket has become my EDC.

Both. It was authorized as a personally owned weapon.
They're the same, just depends on what region of the U.S. youre from, e.g., shotguns in Appalacia or the south and handguns in New York and more cosmopolitan areas. Some location require both!

Have managed 40 years of gun toting without ever rocking a second handgun and never will.
Having never had a non-intentional misfire/fail to fire in thousands of hours of range time, I like my odds in that regard.
Having never needed a second handgun whilst interacting with many hundreds of bad guys, I like my odds in that regard, too.

In California your CCW is for the gun that has its serial number on the permit you may not carry another gun in its place or a BUG.

Belt under the cummerbund which would conceal almost anything. Bellybands suck. While I hate ankle carry, I do it when necessary. Went to a wedding with one J frame in the pocket, another on the ankle. (Uninvited dirtbag relatives of the groom were expected.) No problems popped up and no one was the wiser.

My "bad guy" experience took place without the benefit or possibility of a partner or backup. I carry two guns.
Primary open/duty carry - a 4 inch S&W Model 686-6.
Primary concealed carry - a 3 inch S&W Model 13-3.
Backup carry was a S&W Model 37 now mostly replaced by a S&W Model 642-2.
In uniform the backup can be in my hand surreptitiously.

I did not think about it. Even today the second one will be in my truck. After all a CHL is to confront the unseen. If I know there is going to be trouble that I can not avoid my M&P 15 will be the go to firearm!

For years on duty I carried a full size 1911 and a commander size 1911 as backup. After many years of not needing that second gun I stopped.

I have seen CA licenses with multiple guns listed on it but there does seem to be multiple examples of licenses that don't look the same, do such rules vary by county or some such thing?
A guy is rushing at you from a close distance with a knife, you get 2 shots off, one hits him in the chest & one in the arm. Your third shot JAMS. He's now 6 feet from you coming at you with a I'm going to kill you look. What do you do? You go to your backup weapon, that what you do! Or maybe a knife? I'd rather have my backup pistol.
