I bet not many know The Monkey's had their own protest song, The Last Train to Clarksville.

'Cause I'm leaving in the morning
And I must see you again
We'll have one more night together
'Til the morning brings my train
And I must go
Oh no no no, oh no no no
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home

I wasn't at Woodstock. I was thirty-two, married, with two little children, and was a minister--everything a lot of the kids then distrusted. But I watch the movie from time to time.

Alvin Lee's rendition of "I'm Going Home" with Ten Years After was unforgettable. So was Hendrix's "Star Spangled Banner", and just about everything Carlos Santana did, but it's Lee I remember most from the flick. Sad that we lost him a year or so ago.

CCR's "Bad Moon Rising" also comes to mind when I think of that time.

...and to my knowledge, there never was a train track running through Clarksville.:D

Landmark album

I was 13 in SC. No way i was going to New York with a bunch of hippies.

Abraxas was a landmark album. Black Magic Woman, Oye Como Va

I still have "Bad Moon Rising" sheet music. I takes me back to sitting on a cold sidewalk in the wee hours of the morning folding papers to take out on my route. Of course the puerile joke was "There is a bathroom on the right".

"Leaving On a Jet Plane" by Peter, Paul and Mary

All my bags are packed,
I'm ready to go
I'm standing here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin',
It's early morn
The taxi's waitin',
He's blowin' his horn
Already I'm so lonesome
I could die

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go.
I'm leavin' on a jet plane
I Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go.......

And that's exacting like it was.................
can't even read the lyrics without getting choked up...........

"Rainbow" by Marmalade.
I was a USAF TAC pilot and our planes had an "automatic direction finding" (ADF) radio which could receive the AM radio band. We'd tune in the Armed Forces Vietnam Radio Network during calm moments between the fun parts. One day that song came on and I listened for it ever since.
I still love it.
BUT, if you want to see a painfully dumb video, look for it on youtube.
