Born in 62 here. I always think of Vietnam when I hear All Along the Watchtower by Hendrix and Run Through the Jungle by CCR.

To those that went, you guys have my utmost respect for making it through and coming back. Mere words cannot express my gratitude for your service. Saying thanks is not enough but it is the best I can do. Thank You guys and God Bless each one of you.

Lots of good music during that era but my favorite song was " Paint it
black" by the Rolling Stones. The one song that immediately links back
to the war itself and the TV coverage is " These Boots are made for
Walking" by Nancy Sinatra.

One to start the decade of the '60s and one to end it:

Mr. Custer
I remember hearing this one as a kid. A novelty song, made it to number one in 1960.

Gimme Shelter
Released in 1969, pretty much speaks for itself.

;)fixed it for ya:D
Yep, "do away with people, blowin' my mind. Do away with people wasting all my precious time"
Funny thing was somebody played that whole album just the other night "Surrialistic Pillow" (1967)it just started a loop in my head that I hadn't heard in a real long time. Probably won't go away for a while.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ylLdszMHkLo

Gonna have to pull that one out of the stack and play it today, good memories.

This one came out just after Vietnam but it is the song I thought of

Billy, don't be a hero don't be a fool with your life
Billy don't be a hero come back and make me your wife
And as he started to go she said Billy keep your head low
Billy don't be a hero, come back to me

Those listed above, but top of my list is Buffalo Springfield "For What it's Worth".
I looked to see if anyone else named this one before I posted. I had to Google "what's that sound everybody" to learn the title and artist. For reference, I'm 42.

Trip down memory lane

I still listen to many of those tune especially CCR etc.
Link is provided for old sailors and Marines to check out one of the Ships I spent large amount of my young life aboard. Scroll down to 70's Viet War " Home Movies" 1970 by Jerry Schulte, open for some flight ops and the music in the background, I got a instant whiff of NavGas!!!:)
This particular carrier was around for along time, You Korean vets might enjoy some of the pictures provided from that error, Banshee's etc. Roam around the site, the man who put this together over the years made a lot of us old sailors smile, especially since they made a reef of her!! Memories.
 USS Oriskany videos

This was late but.......

Didn't "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oad Tree" take on some meaning for returning Vets even though the basis was different (returning convict)?

It could ALMOST be interpreted to represent returning Vets but the line "and put the blame on me" doesn't apply to soldiers, many of whom were drafted. Of course if somebody VOLUNTEERED to go instead of staying with wife/girlfriend it could kinda sorta by construed that way. But I never liked the link to Vets but the Vets probably didn't mind.

That's one I've not heard in ages. Who sang it?

You have a mate here, Ordy was on the Oriskany, and I saw her many times when she was moored here for parts before towed to become part of mother nature.
