The ultimate Highway Patrolman thread.including N frame ser# ranges

Must've been during switch from pinned barrels, they still had recessed cylinders on hand. Wonder if yours counts as a Transition like the older pre vs post war featured guns

For some reason when I mashed the trigger my shots went high right which is the opposite of the low left I would have expect when shooting other guns....Anyway, here are the first 10rds SA at 25 with federal 158rnl. Using a 6oclock hold on the bull.

Here are the ones that were on paper from 10rds of DA at 25. The misses were high right in approximately the 5ring had I been using a full B8 target.

For comparison I typically have no problem shooting 95+ with my Glocks.

This is a personal challenge that I think will bring some fun back to shooting for me.

Well, first thing to realize is that a DA revolver's trigger pull has little in common with a Glock's trigger pull. A more similar pull is the one you find on a S&W M&P 9/40/45. Due to the length of pull on DA trigger significant effort must be applied to insure the sights remain aligned at hammer release and during follow through. If using a "staged" trigger pull (where in one smooth pull you pull the trigger far enough to rotate the cylinder until it locks, then carefully pull the rest of the way until the hammer falls) you can more easily treat the pull as a long single action pull, helping to keep the sights aligned while firing and during follow through. In contrast, a DA pull that does not use staging is a bit, sometimes a lot, more difficult to maintain sight alignment throughout the process. I would sight the gun in at 25 yards using a solid grip and using single action. I then would practice very hard to get your DA rounds to print to the same point of impact. If shooting to the right then you are twitching the trigger finger to the right upon trigger release. Dry firing will reveal this to you. If shooting to the left then you are pushing the sights left with your trigger finger upon release. Shooting high usually means you are pushing away with the heel of your hand (called heeling the shot). If shooting low then you are being too aggressive with the trigger and pulling your sights low upon release. Good luck in learning the art (not science) of accurate DA shooting.

My serial number is 128654 so I guess it's one of first years they was made.

when should i stop?

Just got my recent S prefix home today. 3 pre-28, 2 S prefix, 1 N prefix, what am i missing?

Only one with box and paper, it is the one with the diamond target grips, it is the most complete.

The other favorite of mine is the one with 3Ts, upper left corner.

Thanks

Here is my 4" 28-2 with a N235xxx number making it a late 1963 model. It has some holster wear and ugly grips but it's one of my favorite wheelguns.

Sorry for the bad picture but it was getting dark outside. I will post a new picture when my new grips come in.

You're missing the 8" barreled version.
Also, a 28-1.
Sorry, your impressive Highway Patrolman collection is incomplete!

Here's a few pics of the 28-2 I purchased today....
