Retired Cop from So Cal

Welcome from another retired cop. I hung it up in 1997 and never looked back. Great people here, lots of help on any topic and never a stupid question.
Hello Old Cop!
What a warm welcome from everyone! I figured there would be a lot of retired & active law enforcement on here. I feel right at home:cool:

I was at Ontario. Actually medically retired from injuries from a fight with a drug overdosed carjacker in the middle of the 15 at the 60. Used to live in Rancho Cucamonga. Now that your retired.....those PERS checks go a Long way in Texas....and they don't hate guns here.

Question about CHP

Probably! I worked Riverside from 1983-2011. My nephew has been in Rancho Cucamonga since about 2003.

First thanks for your service & the rest of the Officers on here. I have just got back into handguns after years of not being a big follower. I began searching for the best gun I ever had a S&W MOD 28. Then I really found myself interested in a Officer service weapon, Which leads me to my question. I just purchased a Dan Wesson Mod 15 .357 has Callifornia Highway Patrol emblem's and the CHP Officer name & badge #. So 1st question do you know if CHP ever used? Next is I feel if it was my service weapon I would want it. Or if it was award I would want it. I found it in Me. & I bought it. I found the man who's name is on it. I also found a newspaper clipping with him with a vehichle stopped, pretty cool for my collection, but I feel he needs his gun. Your thought would be appreciated.

Sorry it took so long for me to respond. I appreciate your support for law enforcement. Dan Wessons were never purchased & issued as service weapons by the CHP. However, officers were allowed to carry other department approved revolvers before it went to semi autos in 1992. I carried a S&W model 66 from 1988 until 1992. Some carried Pythons & Rugers. I'm sure a few also carried some revolvers that were not approved. The Dan Wesson 357 may have been approved by the CHP but I'm not certain. I sold my model 66 25 yrs ago. Now that I'm retired I would like get it back for the sentimental value. I'm fairly certain the officer that owned that 357 Dan Wesson would love to have it back.

I retired after 35 years in Texas Law Enforcement. I was a gun nut my whole career. I did firearms qualifications for 5 different agencies over the years. I was always amazed by the Officers who knew little or nothing about guns including the one they carried. I had a great time but the politics finally convinced me to get out. I maintain my Retirement Commission. Recently I traded for a older S&W M19 and am carrying that now. I love the older revolvers. Anyway, enjoy your retirement.

Welcome from Texas Raider Rudy. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.
