I have everything to reload for my 41 mag, gun I'm loading for is a S&W mod 57 mountain gun. Need help finding Alliant 2400. My Lyman states in bold which is their supposed most accurate load for the 210 grain bullet. I have everything the Lyman suggest but the powder. Thanks guys

you could stand to supplement your data to include ...
IMR 4227 ... a real hero through the shortage as most don't seem to know what to do with it.
H110 / WW296 the classic full deck mag powder.
300 MP a newer offering by alliant
Lil Gun ... kinda hot but does perform.
AA#9 ... once you know ...
N110 .. if you don't mind spending a few bucks more

You are going to have to play "Detective". Start calling gun shops in your area, start looking on-line both locally and nationally. Eventually you will find some. Might cost a few $$ more than it should, especially with shipping and haz-mat, but its out there.

But, while searching, I would look at what other powders you may have right now, and what is available locally. 2400 is a good powder for the big bore magnums, but it is not the ONLY powder. Lots of good choices out there, and just because Lyman had good results in their test gun(s), does not automatically mean yours will like it as well.

Thanks for the responses guys, due to health issues, I'd like to tame it down just a tad, so the imr would do it?

IMR4227 is one way to do it, AA#9 is another.
the upside of 4227 is you are fairly likely to find it.
Downside is that it is notorious for leaving unburned powder behind. It has produced some very accurate loads however.
AA#9 can nip at the heels of the great H110, but, it offers more latitude for reduction.

I'm a big fan of Titegroup. A little goes a long way and just about every load I've tried has been very accurate. You can also go from stout to paper punching loads with it.

I'm loading from a lee classic turret press. it does pretty well loading for my mod 25 mountain gun, it suggested large pistol primers, would the large primers cut down on unburnt powder?

The Winchester large primers can be used as both standard or magnum primers. Winchester does make standard and magnum SMALL pistol primers which should be applied per the load data you are using.

If you are going to tame it down, look at some of the faster powders such as 231/HP38 or Unique.

... and nearly every picture of a cartridge case in fragments I've seen over the past 2 years had this crud in it.
Do not use TG in a magnum revolver.

Unique is also a great powder for the .41 Magnum. On the topic of 2400, it truly is outstanding and my favorite. It must be used close to a max load, as it does not like to be loaded down.

My Lyman states in bold which is their supposed most accurate load for the 210 grain bullet.

That, of itself, means little in the grand scheme of things because every gun is an individual. You can roll back 2400 some but the farther from maximum loads you get, the less completely it burns. 2400 has a nasty habit of leaving hard, unburned kernels behind which tend to get into and under all sorts of stuff. 4227 delivers less than maximum velocity but excellent accuracy-similar to AA#9. #9 meters thru your powder measure better than 4227. If you want to go all the way down to 900-1,000 fps, try Unique or even W231/HP38.

Alliant Unique is one of the most versatile powders made. I've loaded plenty of softer 41 magnum loads with Unique and cast bullets. Two others you could use are Hodgdon CFE Pistol and Alliant Blue Dot, especially if you're loading jacketed bullets.

Thanks guys for the info, it's very appreciated, I believe I'm gonna try the imr, I think the Winchester mag primers will cut down some on the unburnt powder. Only thing is as per the manual they used the hornady Jacketed hp in the 210gr I bought the Sierra jhc how will this affect the load. The hornady was higher than the Sierra and scince I'm jus punching paper and water jugs I didn't figure I needed the hornady.

I used 2400 in my .41's until I "discovered" AA9 a few years ago.
I use a "toned down" load for deer/hog hunting, which is accurate and MANAGEABLE.
This load chrono's at 1100 FPS from the 657 MG.
