Well, I've owned many 3rd Generation S&W pistols over the years including two previous frame-mounted decocker models, a 1026 and a Kentucky State Police Contract 1076. However, it's probably been 5 years or so since I've owned any 3rd Gen guns and I recently got the itch to get another. As fortune would have it, about a week after I started looking, I found this very nice 5926 in near new condition on Gunbroker. I haven't gotten it in my hands yet, but when I do I'll take some decent pics of it and post them here. Oh, the best part? My wife bought it for me! :D

In the meantime, here are a couple of seller-provided photos of it. I'm really looking forward to shooting this one! :)

VERY nice!!! :D :D :D Even the grips, which might be hard to find for a frame decocker, are pristine perfect! :)

Tell your wife "WELL DONE"!!! :D

Very nice. I should have picked one up when iammo had them. That looks to be in very good condition.

BTW, I have a Hoyt holster for this 5926. It's a San Luis Obispo Police Department holster and is so marked. It dates to 1995 when the SLOPD carried 5926 pistols.

That's a great looking gun. I saw that auction and was tempted to put in a bid as well, but I didn't want to scramble for an NJ pistol permit. I'm glad it wound up here on the forum.

You and me both. I'm glad I snagged a 5903 before they sold out - they were nearly new.

I received my long-awaited Letter Of Authenticity today and discovered some interesting information about the Model 5926 in general and my particular example in particular.

As you can read for yourself below, the total production for the Model 5926 was ~5000 pistols and, interesting to me, my pistol was not only one of the first 192 produced, but, according to the serial number information provided by Mr. Jinks, was the forty-seventh 5926 produced! :)

Recently bought a 5926

I'm a little late to reply to this thread, but here goes, Years ago, 20+,I sold a S&W 5906, regretted it instantly, I thought a cz75 would fill my need, it didn't, fast forward to 2 days ago, I called my FFL guy with a wish list, he called me 2 days later saying a 5926 just came in his door, and wanted to know if I was interested. But of course I was, went to look at it,WOW, pristine condition, box, 2 mags all paperwork, including the recall service that was performed by S&W, the original owner said it lived in it's box, in his safe for the last 25 years, maybe 200 rounds ever went thru it. I bought it for $375 out the door

Nice found. Don't forget to look for the double dots punched into the frame under the decocker, which was the factory mark signifying the recall work had been done.

SMITH & WESSON
MODEL 1026, 1076, 4526, 4536, 4576, 5924,
5926, 6924 and 6926 PISTOLS

RECALL: Models affected have frame mounted decocking levers.

Other model Smith & Wesson pistols are not affected by this advisory.

We have determined that it is possible for a Smith & Wesson Third Generation 9mm, 10mm and .45 ACP pistol with a frame-mounted decocking lever to malfunction so as to make the pistol inoperable.

In order to safeguard our customers from the possibility of such a malfunction, Smith & Wesson will inspect and, if necessary, modify these pistols free of charge. Owners of Smith & Wesson 9mm, 10mm and .45 ACP pistols featuring a frame-mounted decocking lever with model numbers listed above, and which do not have two dots stamped on the frame underneath the decocking lever (when the lever is depressed) should send their pistols and accompanying magazines to Smith & Wesson for a no-charge inspection.

Please send your pistol and magazines to:

Smith & Wesson
2100 Roosevelt Avenue
Springfield, MA 01102-2208
Attn: Service Department-DL

If you have any questions regarding this product advisory, please call 800-331-0852 ext. 211.

While we have your pistol, our armorers will stamp your pistol with two dots under the decocking lever, and give your pistol an ultrasonic cleaning and full lubrication (a $25.00 value) at no charge.

We apologize for this inconvenience. Smith & Wesson remains committed to building the safest, most reliable and finest-performing firearms possible.

Thanks for the advise, I have the paperwork stating it was done, but now I'm wondering

How would I find out the production year of it, with a serial# starting in TFA

An outstanding find and what a sell! I hope it brings you years of enjoyment!

TFA should be a 1990 production year pistol. When you call S&W about the recall, ask nicely and they'll tell you the year it was shipped from the factory. ;)

The box "special order" number is the Julian ship date. The first numbers will denote year and the remaining, the day of the year. If unable to decipher post a picture of the end and I or someone else will be glad to assist.

Congrats - I have a pristine 5924 and seek a 5926 - these are cool guns.
