Hi All,

Just came back from firing my M&P 15-22 at the range and all went well. The only problem I had was the stock grip was too small for my hand. I had difficulty keeping my hand up at the very top of the grip and with my long fingers, was having too much finger on the trigger. My instructor said I definitely need a larger grip for my hand. I have the standard collapsible stock and was wondering what would be the best grip to replace the one I have with. I was looking at Magpul, but am not sure what to get. I am also going to get something to keep my left hand in the proper place on the handguard...either a vertical grip of something else just to keep my fingers in the right place at the end of the handguard.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank!

KH, nice to hear that you had success with your new 15-22

Regarding the grip. I have a Hogue with finger grooves and storage and it is slightly larger than the factory grip and the finger grooves make a repeatable grip. It is very comfortable as well.

It is up to you what to attach to the rail...with the MLOK handguard you are going to need MLOK attachments or MLOK Picatinny rails. I personally have the Magpul AFG on the bottom rail and have a GoGun gas pedal on the left side of the rail, which is great for the grip i use. It means my support hand grips the rifle in the same place every time.

It is either an AFG style grip or a vertical grip...the choice is yours to make. Just make sure that you get the right attachment to fit the handguard.

Welcome to your new addiction ;)

I do have the M-LOK handguards but have some Pictatinny rails I can use too. Prefer M-LOK since it is easier. When shooting, my hand would not stay tight at the top, but would creep down after firing a few rounds. Also, my trigger finger was hard to keep on the fleshy part above the first knuckle. My instructor said my grip was too small and that was causing some of my problems because I kept focusing on keeping my hand tight to keep it up to the top of the grip and kept adjusting my finger on the trigger. So, he suggested a Magpul or similar grip for a large hand. So, here I am.

Thank for your input here and on my other threads. I appreciate it and all the people that help us newbies!

Be safe!

I like the hogue grips myself. Don't have huge hands either. Probably average for someone that's 6' 2". The texture just feels way better on the rubberized hogue grip vs the hard plastic that comes standard

I am actually happy with the way my 15-22 is set up at the moment and am actually going to concentrate on shooting instead of modding it.

I placed second in the rapid fire league competition in my division in my second season, so i am happy, my results improved greatly after the 24C was installed. Nice silver medal coming my way :)

However, that being said...i already have its next facelift planned, but it wont be for a couple of years yet;)
Diamondhead handguard 15". Will be the next big spend.

In regards to grips, i really like the look of this

and it would be easily adapted to your own style by adding more or less paracord. Couple that with the Fortis shift skeletonised AFG and it will look sweet.

I am using an ATI Scorpion grip on my Smith at the moment. Which would likely work well if you are looking at a "fatter" grip.
Drop me a PM if you want more info.

Thanks to all of you for taking time to reply and give some options. Some I have never heard of which is fun. All of you are great and am glad I chose S&W for my AR15. Have learned quite a bit already and hope I can return the favor soon.

KH....be safe out there!
