I don't know if this is unique to S&W, but the sights are installed from the right. I suspect there is a tiny taper to the dovetail which is why they are tight. So, just hammering it to the left may not work.

The proper way to install a new sight is to file a tiny bit off the bottom. Check to see if the sight will slide in about half way by hand. If it won't go half way by hand, file a little more off the bottom. Once it can be fit about half way by hand, then it gets pressed in by a sight mover or punch.

Holmes375 already beat me to the punch (pun intended), but I was going to offer to move it for you. I have a MGW Sight Mover that is specific to the M&P:

I got this pic off the internet, but it is exactly what I have. Even with this tool, it is likely the sight needs to be removed, filed, and reinstalled.

I don't believe moving the front sight 1/32" will fix your problem. But it would at least satisfy you that it's not the problem. I do believe your gun has in issue. I would buy it from you, but that gun isn't on the "Safe Handgun Roster" here in CA.

I am not sure what the problem is. BUT they say passed and to me that far off in 5 ids from a rest. and today I used two different ammunition brands. Blazer brass and Fiocchi.
I don't know but I want it corrected or replaced. Dawson precision said S&W M&P 9's have had some problems with the barrel etc.

When you say you would buy it from me. Why would anyone else want the problem?

I don't know what the problem is either, but I love the challenge. I've bought pistols like this before. The owner can't get it to work and is just frustrated. I've offered to get it working if I could and then sell it back at the price I paid. No one has ever wanted it back and I've always been able to get it working.

Of course none of them had this particular issue. Also, not being able to buy it makes me want it more. Meh, maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment.
 
IIRC, the M&P dovetails are not specific as far as a taper to one side. I could be wrong, though, but I think you can go either way. The real problem is that there is very little standardization in part dimensions among the M&Ps for some reason. 10-8 Performance even puts a disclaimer on their sights stating that there is a "wide variation" in the size of the dovetails on M&Ps. This extends to other parts as well as I've seen a lot of difference in parts that seem to indicate a ridiculous amount allowable of tolerances. It also explains why some people say that their sights move extremely easily while others say that they need a blowtorch and a steel punch to get them to move... and how some people say the rear is loose and the front is tight while others say the front is loose and the rear is tight.

Those sight pushers apply pressure on the front sight blade, rather than on the base of the sight. If it's very stuck, you'll snap the blade off. Applying heat is going to, at the very least, destroy the fiber optic rod and require a replacement. (I'm not sure if S&W provides spares in the box?)

I'm guessing that the gunsmith didn't want to move the sight because he anticipated that it might give him more trouble than he was willing to risk. I don't think that the S&W tech purposely didn't drift the sight because it was stuck. I think he probably didn't even see that it was off... just seeing that the customer was saying the sights were centered, noticing that the rear sight was way off center, and centering the rear. I can't explain the adequacy of the test firing or the extent of the dirtiness / wear on the gun.

Regardless, there are just a few options. (1) Sell the gun. (2) Live with the gun. (3) Pay someone to move or replace the front sight. (4) Send it back in again. You don't have to like the options, but they are what they are.

As far as the wear on the frame tabs.. I may have stated that incorrectly . Its not on the slide and at this point the slide Im guessing was NOT replaced. THe correct way to state it would be to say that... the wear on the frame tabs that the slide slides on show excessive wear for a firearm shot 200 times now. My walther similar design shows very very little wear after many many more rounds that this pistol.
can;t really make a full claim on that . From what I read and saw on youtube these things are supposed to go more than 21,000 without any parts change. Not so sure about that. I want it to hit where the sights are pointed. Just like every other pistol I own. the rest will be determined in the future.

IN all honestly after a good cleaning , the wear looks to be less now. After research and shooting they just recentered the rear sight shot it said OK its done. The thing with me is "Passed" Passed what" they don't say. don't mention at all. Is their spec within 3" at 5 yds.

Also, I have done some searching and its not hard to see that this is an on-going problem with M&P's Going back as far as 2009.
So many people post they sent it back , had barrels replaced to no avail. You would think for how many returns S&W has had they would know exactly what the problem is. Or maybe they do and know they can't fix it?

As far as your claim to Dovetails being different sizes then they had serious issues with he machines that make these Dovetails and if they don't correct them.... why would anyone want one of these? Seriously Guys, Why do people buy these. They aren't particularly tight not particularly well made . Fit and finish leaves something to desire right down to the mold line on each side of the frame right below the slide. Honestly, I don't see it. What prompted me to buy it is the claim to low bore height, recoil. Which honestly may be the case but I've not been able to relax enough to compare that with the innacuracy issues. Shooting side by side with my 5" walther I didn't notice anything other than my walther hit the bull and the M&P didn't. Other than that the firearm does seem to function without hiccup mags go in and out it loads chambers and go bang every time so far.
But why the M&P over others? JUSt don't see it yet, or maybe I am blinded by the problem.

ALL I asked them to do was center the front sight (because it was slight right) and then realign sights. ow they need to also deal with hitting low. A lot of posts say this is due to the poor sight choice/alignment on the sights some claim the front sights especially on the long slide models are too high . I have no idea.

And to answer Tactical Reloads question. No they don't come with any extra fiber inserts. i ordered some Fiber of the same diameter online. in different colors but at this point it does seem like I will be having any fun with this pistol. Can;t enjoy it until it shoots straight. I pistol that doesn't hit the mark is a hinderance not a weapon.

I'm ging to do my best to MAKE S&W correct this problem one way or another and will post on-line every step of the way. If they ban me here there are many other forums. I am doing nothing but stating the truth. I gave them a chance to correct the problem. 2.5 weeks waisted.
Tactical Reload I believe you stated yours had to go back the second time also.
I will tell them that if they want it back I want a commitment to over night shipping and no more then 10 day delivery to me. Otherwise refund, buyout or replacement with (brand new firearm) no refurb. If not
I will just keep sending it back until it costs them more than it is worth.

You guys defend S&W all you like. This is the fact. 4 years later still the same issue.

NO sir, don't know where you got that? Would like you to quote that part of any post. Smith and Wesson not willing to do anything but have me send it back again and again an again. The issue is FAR from being resolved at this point. Right now i have a new pistol that shoots off at 5 yds. Not the trigger. not a trigger jerk shot from a rest eliminates that.
Sorry. Those that are sticking up for Smitha and Wesson on this one will get bit by their poor quality sooner or later. This problem is all over the net. You tube videos post on many forums going back as far as 2009. Their quality control is non-existent and buying one is a **** shoot that I am on the loosing end of. If they refund my money, or replace the pistol you will hear nothing else form me. But they won't. And as far as now they have had it much longer than I have. Bought a new pistol. I would like to use it not have them use it for me.
Worst part is its a nicely styled and designed pistol. Their manufacturing process/Quality control is lacking. And judging by the posts on the internet going back to 2009 . It's nothing new. Some people said they had to change to a lower front sight . Then why are they using this sight in production?

the Walther no doubt has a better trigger. Better firearm all the way around.

But the fact is that I purchased a brand new firearm in good faith and got a defective product that they did not fix when sent back for 2.5 weeks. I have now $770 invested with extra magazines, gunsmith fees etc. Not happy at all.

Imagine how far this is off at 25yds?
It's low at 5yds!
My Kids NERF gun is more accurate that this at 5 ids and that is the truth.
Front sights too low. Sights not adjusted/ postponed correctly , bad barrel, machining? who knows but whatever it is they had it for 2.5 weeks they should have found it and corrected it.

I'm sorry your new M&P is not working. I haven't had that problem, so I would be pissed too. I get that. However, if it's not your only gun (i.e. you have something else to defend your hearth and home), I would keep sending it in until THEY get it right. It sucks, I agree, and it might take 3, 4, 5, times (even though it shouldn't), but the more you "bother" them about their defective problem, the more they will get annoyed until it is resolved. YMMV.
