She carries a model 638 J-frame .38 special snub nose because she absolutely hates racking a slide. Not that she can't, she just doesn't like it. Her ammo is either Hornady Critical Defense or Winchester PDX1 Defender.

SWMBO is the lower half of 60+range, as am I. She carries a Gen 3 Glock 26 in a Pistol Packin' Mama CC purse normally, sometimes a Gen 2 Glock 19 the purse or 9mm LCR in the pocket. All three are on her CCW, the Glock 19 was her Duty Gun for 10 years. She EDC's even we are out together.

My wife carries a J frame 357 Magnum albeit with 38 Special ammunition. She is strictly a wheel gun gal.

My wife's EDC (My wife is 68)

Smith & Wesson Model 642-2 "Ladysmith" .38 Special +P

My wife carries a Model 60 with a CT laser grip. She tried a Glock but went back to the Model 60. She carries regularly in her purse or with the Undertech concealment pants. She says they are comfortable and secure.

My wife has a Bersa Thunder .380 and a Sig-Sauer P938. She doesn't carry either right now since she's awaiting her license from Austin. They seem to be pretty backed up right now, so it may take awhile. She shot her qualification with the Bersa since the Sig was in the shop at the time. It's home now and she's happy.

Wife carries a 642-1 in her purse. She does not have a license, but Mississippi had the purse carry law at the time I got it for her. Now we are constitutional carry finally!!!!!

Yup, she recently went from a .642 revolver to a .45 auto due to arthritis in her thumb. She's a purty salty old broad.

My girlfriend and I are both 62. She knew I carried everyday when we met. As such, she became interested in her own self defense. I let her go through the safe and try anything she found of interest.
She now has her handgun permit and her choice for daily carry is a 2" Model 10.

Whitwabit: My late wife had similar problems due to arthritis. For her the solution was a 2" Model 30 in .32 long. Recoils about like a .22, but with proper ammo is suitable for self defense.
Then again, a .22 is better than nothing. You might want to give them a try.

Wife's been through a few. Liked the Bersa 380, didn't like j-frames. Sorta liked the Taurus Millenium.

LOVES the Glock 43=she has TWO: One for EDC and one (with laser) for the nightstand.

I have a Model 27 converted to 357 Sig for carry and a Model 22, also converted to 357 Sig, with compensator and laser for my nightstand. A model 26 in the desk in the office. Browning Hi-Power in the reloading room, downstairs.

"She shoots like a girl. Can you?"

She has tried the S&W 22 compact which is much like the 40Compact I carry and not only the recoil but she is very weak in her fingers .. and even pulling the trigger bothers her if she shoots much more then a mag or two .. so she has just given it up ..

She has become my second set of eyes and ears since we are almost always together whenever we are out and about ..
