Need help selecting my next revolver.

OK, so I like non-blued revolvers. Principally .38 and/or .357 revolvers.

It's not that I don't think blued firearms are cool. They are… I just don't like the pitting, rust and eventual wear that will happen. I don't buy firearms to be safe-queens. I like to shoot them. So, wear is inevitable.

I would like some suggestions about my next purchase. I prefer .38 and/or .357, but am open to other calibers. I reload .38 and .357 and am not too interested in reloading other calibers except maybe .223 (for my M&P15 and H&R rifles). And, I love revolvers.

Here is what I currently have…

S&W Model 66.2 .357 (San Antonio PD)
Rossi M971 .357 (Interarms with compensator)
S&W Model 638-3 Airweight (new with lock and Crimson Trace)
NAA Pug 22 Mag

I guess the Rossi could be considered a duplicate of the 66.2, but it had a compensator and I thought that it was different enough to motivate me to pick it up, on a whim.

The 66 and 971 are range/truck revolvers. The 638 and NAA are pocket guns.

If you were to add another to the list, what would you recommend?

This. A 686 is a "must have." The Ruger GP100 is also terrific.

Have to say that I absolutely LOVE my S&W 617 6" ... Just sayin' ...

You already have some 4" guns so here's a change of pace:

2.5" or 3" 686-6 Plus (7 shot).
2" Rossi 462 (6 shot) in .357 (cool gun for about $339 in most markets).
3" Ruger GP100 (6 shoot) in .357.

Here are a couple I would recommend:

For a small 5 shot pistol I would recommend either the 3" barrel 60-15 or the 60-15 Pro. I have the regular 3" 60-15 and it's a pretty sweet shooting J frame that isn't too punishing with bad boy 357 Mags in it.

and the second I would recommend is the 627 Pro, which has a 4" barrel and is an 8 shot N frame. I just got one of these and it is an absolute hoot to shoot and even full on 357 Mag rounds don't punish you badly.

Your mod.66 is cool and you already have the mod.38 size....

This should round out your collection!

Nickel 586
or a 686 would work.
I am just the opposite, I only buy blued guns.
Just don't care for the look of stainless and Nickel
is too shiny for my taste.
Blued guns are just as easy to clean and take care of.
None of my handguns have rust or piting and they are all
blued guns. And all are shooters !!

You didn't talk about an intended use........................stainless limits the selection....... but I have to agree with many above..... a 4 or 6 inch 686.

If you're willing to go blue a 4 or 6 inch 28 would be good if it fits your hand.

Take a look at the Dan Wesson stainless .357, with the different barrels available, a super accurate gun with lots of options.

I don't see a .22 LR on your list, so consider a 4" 617. I'm a big fan of .38/.357 also, but my 617 gets more range time than anything else.

Your collection seems to have no theme. I'd sell the Rossi (Brazilian S&W Model 19 knock-off) and replace it with a 586 L-comp: L frame , 3" compensated barrel, blue finish. Then go after the granddaddy of them all, a 27-2 in any length barrel you prefer (premium $ for 3 1/2" or 5"). I think a Model 17 or 18 is a good choice for a blue .22

You seem to gravitate to K-frame sized revolvers so, a new model 66 would be a good fit for you. It would give you a 4" barrel K-frame that is built to take a steady diet of .357 magnum rounds. Win-Win!

Another 686 vote! I have a 6" -3 that I like. Have a blue 586 no dash too. If you could lower yourself to a plain .38, a 67, would be good! Bob

What is the intended use/purpose? A 2.5" K Frame is hard to beat....

In no particular order I'd say prelock 686, 3 screw blackhawk and a Python.
