NHL STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS 2016

How about that Marty Jones kid?

Jones was the difference. He played a fantastic game, and didn't lose his head when the Pens tied it up quickly.

If the Pens trainer could find a way to put webbing under Murray's glove arm, the Pens would've played one less game in each series. Pretty sure the book on him is to shoot "high, at the armpit"!

Also posted this in another thread, says it all.

If it goes to game 7, it proves my theory that the NHL is like WWE  It's all about TV ratings. The first 6 games are predetermined and only game 7 is a real game. (TV money can influence lots of things). (I'm only being partially sarcastic). (Go Pens)

Lifelong hockey fan here. Around long enough to have seen Gordie Howe play against my Rangers back in the 60's when we'd be eliminated by Montreal seemingly every season. Godspeed Gordie.

Like BKreutz, I've become more and more jaded about the legitimacy of professional sport. (Anybody notice that the NBA waited to suspend Draymond Green conveniently where the suspension might lengthen the series between the Cavs and Warriors? Please. Kicking Adams in the nuts wasn't enough.)

Anyway, back to hockey. I hate the Pens (for all the usual reasons) but would love to see Hagelin hoist the Cup. That said, I'm rooting for San Jose since they haven't been to the big show before and I've only seen the Rangers win one Cup in my lifetime. (The 22nd anniversary of which will be celebrated on Flag Day this Tuesday. Thank you Messier, Leech, Richter and company.)

If hockey does in fact end up going the way of professional wrestling, I think I'm done with sports altogether. (Though my missus will kill me if I cancel our DirecTV subscriptions to the NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL.)

HUH?

Where does the hate for Penguins come from, what are all the usual reasons?

Being a fan of the game of Hockey first and a fan of the local team second I'm at a loss. And since the Penguins are closer than the Sharks I'm rooting for the Penguins. That and I want the Cup back in the Eastern Conference.

I was being a bit facetious, Mike, since any dyed in the wool fan hates pretty much everyone that's not their team, especially if their own beloved team was eliminated by...(cough)...the Penguins. (And like you, I am a fan of the game and can usually rise above the petty hatred. Usually, I say...;))

That said, while I certainly appreciate the ability of players like Crosby, Malkin and Kessel I draw the line at saying anything nice about them. Crosby's incessant yapping and whining would make Mother Teresa get out the ruler. (Though my wife will tell you that I actually said Crosby made a great pass in the last game. Perish the thought.)

Just for fun, have a look at this to see how the blood feud is fueled. It's a classic clip if you're a fan of the game.

Oh, and don't think we're letting your neighborhood off the hook after Callahan, Strahlman and Boyle signed with the Bolts. Just sayin'.

LET'S GO RAINJUHS! :D

I will say Draymond Green is somewhat of a thug, but LBJ was the thug in Game 4 , imo. He elbowed, grabbed, tripped and otherwise assaulted almost every Warrior on the court.
A low professional performance for the pronounced King, especially his constant begging the refs for every call.

Still I Don't Get It

The Penguins played better hockey and be at the Lightning, yeah I'm GRUMPY that the 'local' boys didn't get to go to the big games. If they had played better they would be in the race now.
Wasn't the trade agreement amicable? Both teams got what they wanted from it, right?
As far as to the whining and crying the referees seem capable of ignoring all that. But I do not subscribe to any extended NHL network nor The Hockey News. Maybe I'm a bit out of touch.
Old hockey fights aside, and I am originally from South Jersey, I attended many Flyers-Penguins games when be the end of the second period both benches were very short.
I just can't hate a team for playing their style hockey according to the management's wishes.
