Will I overpay again?

In the past when I have pined over a specific gun I feel I sometimes overpaid when I found the "right" one. I have no regrets on any of them as I buy to keep but I think it would be prudent to get some input on this one to keep me in check a bit.

LNIB 3953TSW pre-rail. Seller asking $650 shipped. I, of course, think that's about $100 high but the pre-rail is scarce especially LNIB. It sure would look nice next to my 3913TSW. Thoughts?

I have expended many hours locating a special gun for someone only to be told, "Well, I think that's a little high."

So are you looking for a special hard-to-find gun or are you looking for a bargain? I don't waste my time looking for bargains, because they are usually unexpected, and not what I really want.

Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten. If it's, for me, the perfect gun, I don't mind paying.

Who's to say what the right price is, I have no doubt I usually pay a premium but I am always thrilled with the result. That premium is maybe the cost of a box or two of ammo so not big deal in the grand scheme.

Buy the one you like and enjoy.

If I find something that I want and the price is within what I'm willing to pay for it, I buy it. I have found several times that if you take to long making the leap it's usually already sold.

Thanks for the replies. It's good to see that others think the way I do. I'm not sure why I'm hesitating on the $$ part of this one. I think I've read too many posts of deals I wish I could find.

I thought for a moment that I have too many 3rd gens already but immediately dismissed that nonsense.

Like-new-in-original-box counts a whole lot with me. I don't think that price (including shipping) is crazy out of line given the scarcity and desirability of that particular pistol. That said, I think you are right in your assessment that the asking price (including shipping) is about $100-$125 (+/-) over what most folks would consider attractive.

Add on a transfer fee of $25.00 for an out-of-pocket cost of $675 and I couldn't pull it off, even with wife pre-approval. But that doesn't mean it's not worth it. If it really is as clean as you say, at a price tag of, say, $549-$599 plus sales tax in one of our local shops it would be gone in less than one week.

If you can afford it, want it, and it's available, buy it. That's a rare bird, especially NIB and complete. You may worry about paying a bit more for it for a while, but if you don't buy it you'll be regretting it for years.

I agree. While I love finding a bargain, I don't mind paying the going rate and greatly dislike paying over market price.

We all know one person, who is never happy with prices, plus other things. He always has a story how he got it for less. He talked the guy down, outsmarted him and on and on.
My 1st question is always, why does this happen to you, all he time. Generally I have, and I am sure most of us do this, check it out way before walking into the store. 75% of my firearms come from a 'real stores'. Gun Shows, for me, are for ammo, holsters, cleaning, etc..
It give peace of mind. If I pay a bit more----'so be it'. Evey once in a while, when questioning a gun and he sees I am ready to walk, He will
drop it with out me saying anything. I was never any good at haggling anyway. Its fine Ihump. Have peace of mind. ( Thank you USMC Ihump. You'z Guy'z were my Instructor's @ Little Creek Va in 50 cal down to 38's and did a fine, fine job)

It never hurts to ask for a better deal in a store.
I've often asked it open-ended like that,
sometimes they'll come down more than you expected,
and sometimes they'll not move a penny down

Look at it this way, since so many Rep's are going to stay home,
Hillary will win and then gun prices will shoot thru the dang roof again,
so buy it now, and watch the prices triple after she gets in office,
if she doesn't ban 90% of 'em outright...
which means the black market will then be a seller's only choice...
like in Commiefornia, where Brown just screwed legitimate gun owners.

You can only consider deals that you find yourself,not what others might have found.Same as shopping for a car or girlfriend.
There will no doubt be someone here who says that 550 is too much for that gun,and someone who is willing to pay 750.

You can price shop for canned corn. You can probably price shop for a used 5906. You're pretty much going to pay the price for a LNIB 25yr old uncommon pistol that you've always wanted,.......or you're not going to have one.

Pretty sure they're still printing C-notes. You always get another one of those.

What's this market price stuff?
I see guns sold in the classifieds for way more than I'd ever dream of paying, yet someone here bought it, sometimes in minutes.

There may be a market price for new guns, but for out of production, hard to find and the like, all bets are off.

I've run an ad for 3 1/2 months in the classifieds with not one offer to sell a non bumpered 3953TSW at any price.
