You probably don't know any better since this nonsense has been floating around for decades, long predating the internet; I've had to explain to people that this is utter ox poop long before the internet even existed.

There is no source or evidence that Hitler ever said anything like this.

Besides, whoever invented this quote was an idiot whose only mission was obviously to somehow connect gun control with a bad guy, but who knew nothing of history or of Hitler; restrictions on civilian gun ownership were first imposed on Germany by the victorious Allies after the Versailles treaty (which Hitler hated almost as much as the Jews), and were later re-introduced by the hated Weimar government to try to disarm the Nazis. Hitler would have been the last guy in Germany to embrace them.

Lastly, looking at the actual historical record, there are no German gun control laws to go along with the quote. Nazi Germany was awash with privately owned guns, as I know from family history; everybody seems to have had a pistol stashed somewhere. Note: Private gun ownership doesn't guarantee freedom if the people who own them don't get with the program. The only gun control legislation in Nazi Germany came sometime after the Nuremberg Laws when the Jews were prohibited from owning guns and had to turn in all guns they owned. And since they were good Germans, most seem to have done so.
