INTERNET SNUBBY MATCH

Ruger Speed Six

Greetings,

Here is my effort for my old Speed Six
ammo; Federal AE 115 FMJ
group; 4-9/16 inch

This was my first time out after installing a NOS set of Pachmayr grips - they sure did change my POI, but sadly did not help my grouping - oh well!

shot much higher, but a lot more comfortable, I guess that's a good trade.

So, the rules are set, but it looks like longer barrels are being used here, so I am asking if my pistol is okay for this post.
I have a 6946 (3,5 inch barrel DAO), I didn't know about this post but I just got back from the range.....

The one on the left is 15 yards and 20 shots, the one on the right is 20 shot 15 yards center mass, 10 shots at head 25 yards.
I need more work on head shots.

Jeffytune, you may shoot with a different gun as long as you tell us. You do have to use the same protocall as the rest. 10 shots, 10 yards, 10 fingers, (two hands) Double Action.

Please post your targets like described in the first post.
Eneter early, enter often.
Thank you
David

I have used a 3.5" lightweight officers ACP

I took my 3" Model 13, 2 1/8" Model 60, 1 7/8" Model 36 and 2 3/4" Speed Six to the range this afternoon.

Top honors went to the Model 60 with this 10 yard, 10 shot, two hand double action group:

It's a bit over 1.8":

My 3" Model 13 with a +P load looked stunningly good, until shot number 8 which went low, opening a 1.6" group to 2.9":

A second try with my target load printed 2.0, so I let the Model 60 win:

My Speed Six felt extremely nice but the group was 2.4":

My Model 36 no dash's DA pull was comparatively rough and heavy and the resulting 3.9" group didn't rate a picture.

Managed to get out to the range today and shoot this match. My best target ever with this gun! Load is a full house of H-110 under a Speer 146 gr. HP. They are all gone after today.

10 shots...10 fingers...10 yds.

Here are a couple of targets I shot this morning. Two revolvers 10 shots each. Looks like I need to do this more often. I have never been very good with a double action revolver but as I carry a Ruger sp101 for my CCW I need some more trigger time. And that is what this match is all about.

The targets speak for them selfs.

Pre 27 Smith shooting 158 gr. Federal factory lead .38 specials.

Colt Detective Special. I really like this pistol. The trigger needs work or needs to be shot more to break it in better.

I hope to shoot my Ruger later on today and will post results for that.
Fun match.

Well I made it back out to the haystack to try another 10 out of my Ruger. The gun is a little brick. Not graceful or elegant like a good Smith of Colt, but it does its job well.

So in summary:
Smith&Wesson Pre 27 3 1/2" C to C
Colt Detective Special 4 1/2" C to C
Ruger Sp101 2 3/4" C to C

All fired double action with the speed of a timed fire event.

That's a good way to describe the SP101 and it's about 5 oz heavier than a Model 60 of the same barrel length. I carried a 3" SP101 until found a 3" Model 60, and I still shoot it on a regular basis.

One thing I like about my SP101 is that the heavy trigger pull is reasonably easy to correct with a new 8 pound trigger return spring and a lighter hammer spring from Wolff. The SP101 DA trigger isn't as smooth as the Ruger Speed Six trigger, or an S&W trigger, but the rather mechanical feel is very predictable and easy to stage in DA mode, particularly at the lighter pull weight.

BB57, Thanks for the advice on the Ruger springs. I was thinking today that I need to improve the Rugers trigger.
And nice shooting by the way.

Finaly i had a chanse to go to the range :o
Sorry for the cm ruler. With the fliers i think it is about 1.9 inch?
Defenatly not ideal handloads but they allways go bang :p

S&W modell 19-4 2.1/2"

Nice group! Not too bad of a flier.

When I shoot a 10 shot string I start with a nice group and then throw 9 fliers.

Looks like its going to take some time to figure out the winner, Most in the 2-3" area. Good shooting. What I like to hear is "I need to do this more" That would be ME TOO.

I have shot this once this month so far. Next time I may have to use my 3" 624.

David

Here's my contribution, a lousy 4.3 inches. I was doing OK util I jerked the 8th shot. Tried it again, jerked shots 3 and 4 worse that this one so gave up on it.

July Winner is....

BB57 with 1.8" 10 shot group 10 yards double action.

Thanks to the folks that shot
Thanks to the folks that shot multiple guns
Thanks to prplkrr for shooting full house 357.

For August, shoot from Under Cover
Two hands, double action 10 shots.
Be creative if you can. Prone would be fine,
Around a corner, resting your arm on the side of the shooting booth, behind a box, kneeling, Whatever, keep it safe and around 10 yards.

If sitting in a chair is the only option, THEN USE ONE HAND. :)

Probably going to use my model 36.

The rule this month was shoot from cover and be "creative". I think I met that criteria.

Shot with a S&W 640 Centennial and full house .357 loads.

1st shot hit the black. I was really pleased with this target, given the unorthodoxed shooting position. And I never have shot this way before. Saw it done on T.V. once.

Group measured right at 5". Target height was set at 6'.

I had Mrs. Purple Bikerr take the pic when I got home from the range.
