After watching the recent mini-series on Harley and the Davidsons, got to wondering how many others on the S&W Forum share my love of motorcycles, in particular Harley Davidsons. I've owned several over the years, but this is my first birth year bike, a 1950 EL that underwent a complete restoration in 2008 to commemorate the 80th birthday of the original owner. It is an AMCA winner and pretty much factory OEM. I bought it from the original owner's family last year and it took a good while to get used to the kick start, tank shift ( I know why it is called a suicide shift now), and foot clutch. :) It's a lot of fun on short rides but anything more than that not so much, at least for me:)

Fabulous EL 29-1, Congratulations! I've been an avid motorcyclist for 50 years. I've never NOT had one since 1965. And I love the classics of all marques. I've had three Harleys, a '67 FLH Electra Glide, a '71 XLH Sporster and a '98 XLH Sportster 1200. However, since 1975 I've been a devoted BMW rider. Currently on a 2014 GS 1200. I also have a '63 BMW R69S.

I am 3rd generation harley rider . My father came to Az in 1956 (winter ) on a 47 FL Knucklehead . I have never owned and rode anything but a harley now for 50 yrs . When I was 16 , I rode my harley from Iowa to Az , 2 day trip . Will never forget it . I've about had them all -- Flatheads , Knuckleheads , Pan heads , Shovels , Evo's and Twin Cams . I have always like the looks of the older bikes , a windshield - leather saddle bags and police seat and just a nice shiny paint job with some chrome .
Yeah I know , " Chrome won't get you home " . Well I always said that I would be the best looking guy on the side of the road .
I just thought I should mention that the current HD oil is not what I would use . I have been a strong voice for their oil in the past, but not anymore . They kept demanding the oil co make it for a certain price --cheap . They have went through several makers and I have heard that it is now coming out of Venezuela (citigo) . There are co's here in America that make great aftermarket oil for a harley , both old and new bikes . This is just my opinion .

Very nice, I wouldn't park it at the curb on trash day, the guy's in the truck, might get the wrong idea.

Harleys, never on "top of the heap", when it comes to full-on horsepower,R P M, and top speed, excepting maybe the V-Rod; has for 2017, a new 107 engine.
Not the upped 103, and not the lowered 110, all different.

A report I just got from a man in the know said it was a "beast" !
He had just finished a four day ride on a Road Glide Ultra with the 110.
Said the raw power difference, 107 over the 110 is awesome.

The older Harleys, like O P's Pan and the knucks, are the image I always see when Harleys come to mind.
But to be fair, if you plan to ride, mostly interstate, say from N. C. to Montana or beyond, and you don't have a leisurely amount of time, you will likely be better off with a big modern full dresser.

This started life as a '62 XLCH. Still the original frame with a welded hard tail section. I turned the original motor into scrap with a 4 5/8 S&S stroker kit and 1000 cylinders and heads. Those poor '62 cases couldn't take the stress. It now has "73 cases with the "62 trany installed. The plates are twice as wide and run dry not wet. That stroker kit got stuffed in it and brought it to 1200cc. 95hp with 9:1 S&S pistons on pump gas. 19 tooth trany sprocket with a 2:42 Andrews 1st gear. 1:50 60 foot times with 11:30 or better quarter mile times @ 119+ mph. A little Sunday fun. :)

Wow.My dream bike.

Currently not riding as my wife says I'm to old and no longer strong enough anymore! I did own at different times a "softail" and then an "ultra classic". Of the two, I think the softail was more fun for local riding. Although I no longer ride, I'm amazed at how many of the "gals" are riding (not just sporters) but the heavy's as well. I commend them all.

Murph don't feel bad. My wife is telling me the same thing now about riding. Arthritis is getting the best of me, but I can still polish and look at the bike, even if I can't ride as much as I'd like to :)

The OP's pan is nice, as well as others posted.
Started with my first murdercycle at age 13, a Honda 65 that I bought for $50. Too numerous to count the motorcycles I've had as a younger guy, both street & dirt. Bought my first HD in 1974 (1 year outta high school) and have since owned 6 of them, but none currently. I would like to someday find a nice '55 pan but not holding my breath as it's up there with a 4" reg. mag, along with a few other things I hope to someday run across... and that I can afford.
ETA:
After thinking about it and curiosity being what it is, I like HD's and the old ones even more. I'm about them same as for nice S&W's, which leads to the question; what is appr. value of yours 29-1... if you don't mind sharing?
Nosey people feel like they gotta know. :)
