Health and Fitness Thread

I got up this morning and had my usual breakfast of one egg, toast, sausage, and milk; 520 calories. I recorded it in MyFitnessPal. I then did a 5.6 mile walk, tracked by MapMyWalk. By the time I had changed clothes and sat down with a big glass of iced tea, the mapmywalk app gave the myfitnesspal app an estimate of the number of calories I had burned. Now I can eat more calories today than when I got up and I've already had a good breakfast. Life is good! :)

That's kinda where I'm at. Since I hit my goal weight, I can enjoy meals a bit more.
Also, hiking, biking and other outdoor activities are more enjoyable both because it's easier for me to get around and I can slow down a bit and smell the roses.
I've changes my workouts at the Y more toward muscle development and less toward weight loss. I've increased my workout weights and reps but still do multiple sets.
Today we're planning a nice bike ride.

Dieting and the consumption of beer may go hand in hand. In fact, while at the grocery store this morning I bought a newly released malt beverage Shiner Texas Warmer in a 24 ounce bomber bottle. Normally a Google search on the name of the beer and calories will get you a decent estimate from Rate Beer or MyFitnessPal, but this beer is so new it's not even listed in Beer Advocate.

A few weeks back I had done a search on "calories in beer" and found a table that estimates the number of calories based on the ABV of a beer. Alcohol comprises a large percentage of the calorie content of beer. The table is not perfect, but it better than assigning 150 per 12 ounces to all beers.

The Shiner winter warmer style ale I plan on having this afternoon is 6.8% alcohol by volume, per the label. The table I printer out indicates 12 ounces of 7% ABV beer runs about 210 calories. I'm going to drink the entire 24 ounce bottle, so I will record it as 420 calories. MyFitnessPal indicates I've got 1,185 calories left for today, so I've got plenty of allotment for the beer and a light dinner.

Don't know about you but I personally found that the closer I got to my goal, the slower I seemed to lose weight.
It was all worth it though.

Well, today's bike ride was more nice than ride.
We went to Canal Place in Cumberland MD and did the touristy thing. Since they're right off a bike trail, they're used to seeing people in bike shorts.
We checked out the museums and shops and had a nice little meal at an outdoor cafe.
There's a bike shop there and they had some Bontrager mountain bike tires I might just get for Frankenbike. His tires are starting to come apart in chunks.
Tomorrow's a Y day. On the way home we're gonna do our monthly shopping. While we're out I'm gonna do more bike tire shopping.
I wonder what Walmart has?
Then on Friday, we're gonna have an epic bike ride. Back to Canal Place then on the Great Allegheny Passage trail. We had a taste of it today and I want more.

Keeping on my pace, I now need just 4 3.5 mile runs to hit my Fundraising goal of 50 Running miles this month. It will raise about $500 for the MDA if(when) I hit my goal. This morning I pushed myself and ran 3.5 miles in the time I had been running 3 miles just 3 weeks ago. Including my fastest mile to date which was my 3rd mile at a pace of 9:28

Keep up the good work everyone.

I just saw something that got me thinking. It was a teaser forum post on my myfitnesspal calorie logging app which read... 'I've been on a diet now for two months and have lost 10 pounds...' I thought I've been on a diet now for a bit over 60 years and am finally getting it right. We all are on one diet or another all of the time. It only ends when we die. Good diet, bad diet, healthy diet, fad diet, watch your diet. I need to go walk so I can keep beer in my diet. Have a great day!

Did my civic duty today, spent the day on jury duty. My second trip down to the Jury Pool recently. Didn't get picked but the Judge gave us a little book on the constitution that is pretty nice. Don't think I burned any fat cells while I sat for nine hours!

I'd call that recovery time. Give your body some time to heal the muscles and process waste produced by physical activity.

I had a great 6.75 mile walk yesterday, as well as a productive 40 minutes in the gym. I've been sticking to a balanced diet right around 2,500 calories per day including no more than two beers. I slept well last night, got up feeling good this morning, got on the scale, and I had gained 2.4 pounds since yesterday morning. I must be turning fat into muscle! Muscle weighs more... right? Most likely it's too much salt, I was wondering where all that iced tea I drank yesterday was hiding. It will probably decide it wants back out at the most inconvenient time possible for me. It's another warm morning so I'm going for a walk. The weather is supposed to get a bit rainy over the next few days, so I have to get my walking in when the walking is good.

I have a family reunion coming up in October. The first in two years. I think I had trimmed down to 235 lbs. at the last one. This should be fun.

Each of you have a great day!

Got up this morning and did another 3.5 miles on my quest of 50 for the month. I am now at 39.6 just 3 more 3.5 mile runs needed in 7 days. I also picked up the pace again today. Bested my fastest mile(which was done on wednesday) I ran 9:28 on wednesday, today I ran 9:26 on my second mile, but then busted out a 9:19 on my third mile. Felt really good too. Now 2 days of rest(bow hunting) and then mon, wed, friday next week to finish it out for the month. Keep up the good work everyone!

Had our bike ride on the GAP Trail in Cumberland MD today. I also tried out my new action cam.
Met forum member "The Big D" in Cumberland. He gave me some cigars which are now nestled comfortably in my coolidor. Got some video footage, you can tell I'm still not used to my new camera.

Anyway, the trail was pretty much uphill on the way out and followed a train track. Beautiful scenery and the good part was that it was downhill all the way back. I can feel it already in my leg muscles.

Tomorrow, it's off to the Y.

Another fine morning to get in a brisk walk is upon us. Again, I'll leave hoping to get in five or more good miles, but I'll just go with the conditions and how I feel; and try to be back here one and a half to two hours after I leave. I've got a social function to attend this afternoon and need to find appropriate malt beverages to take. I'll walk to buy the beer, that will burn a couple of hundred extra calories for the day. Each of you have a great day.

208 pounds today! I haven't been in that neighborhood since 1982. Forgive my self-promotion; I just can't help myself. I feel really good about it and I hope everyone else on this thread makes steady progress toward their own health and fitness goals. See you guys later!
