I've had a 929 for about a year now and shot it in a couple of fun matches. Had a lot of fun slicking up the trigger action and tweaking it a bit. Decided to buy another one as a backup gun for matches.

It's not exclusive or fancy, but here is my 627 Pro I bought to treat myself for my 60th birthday.

This is it when I first picked it up at my local FFL after buying it from Bud's:





And this is how it looks now that I've changed out the Goodyears for a proper set of Cocobolo Ahrends grips:



The only other thing I've done since the last 2 pics is change out the red ramp front sight for a gold bead patridge front blade. I got spoiled to the gold bead patridge style front sight with my "Outnumbered" 27-5 that came with that style sight installed. I've put them on my 629-3 Classic and this 627 Pro since they have the interchangeable front sight system.

I'll have to get off my fanny and do an updated pic with the new sights on my 627 Pro and 629-3 then. The new blades are a dream to shoot with and much easier to see with these old eyes.

I am in love with my brass/gold bead Patridge front sight. I know exactly what you mean.

Ok, I just took a pic of my 627 Pro with the gold bead patridge sight installed on it. I really do like these beaded patridge sights. And I also love the replaceable sight system that S&W has on these revolvers as well as on my 629-3 Classic. It makes swapping front sights out quick and easy.

The Lew Horton Registered Magnums with their dual logos are the oddballs.

Dont forget about the last Non-Registered Magnum and the only wartime production Magnum that was produced in 1942 with a 4-1/2" barrel. Small logo on the left side and a large logo on the right side, serial number 62489.

Here's seldom seen SKU 163357 Non-Pro Series 627 8 shot revolver. These had a rather short production run. I think it was only in the 2008 catalog.

I have the twin to your 627, but I bought it sans box from pawn shop and could not find much info on it in the catalog. It is marked 627-5 serial CMX33xx. Mine started with Goodyears as well, so I assume it shipped with them? Was this a Horton run? Is your gun close to same number?

It did in fact come with S&W logo Hogue finger grove grips. These were not Horton guns. They were in fact the first non PC line 8 shot offering from S&W. I think it debuted at SHOT in 2008. I'm not anywhere near the gun tonight so I can't speak to the number right now.

Why they didn't offer a tapered barrel version of this while they were still making "Mountain Guns" is completely beyond me. I'd be inline for an 8-shot 627MG if it ever happens.

Another 627-5. Got some Ahrend grips for it now but don't have any pics with the new grips on it. I shoot okay with the boot grips but I hate having the pinky hang off when I shoot.

I just returned from the range with a couple of my 629s and one of the guys stopped me on the way out. He said he saw I was a revolver guy and asked if I'd look at his brand new 8 shot 6" 686. He obviously wasn't a revolver shooter as he had 3 Glocks and a couple other bottom feeders on the bench. He was complaining that it felt too tight. He'd only put one cylinder downrange of factory ammo. I loaded 8 (felt strange) and knocked out the bullseye at 12 yards. It's been awhile since I'd shot 357 but man, that one felt sweet! I handed it back to him and told him to keep on shooting, that it would smooth out. He looked at me like I was crazy until I compared it to breaking in a 1911. I think maybe it registered, I don't know. I told him he'd bought a fine gun and to enjoy. If I didn't have such an addiction to the 44 caliber I'd be really tempted to grab one.
