90 days until retirement

Congratulations! i went out last day of November 2013 because the PBGC interest rate was going up on December 1st and my lump sum pension would have gone down 10%. This year its the opposite, and the rate is going down December 1, so people's lump sum will increase if they wait until December or later to retire. I just went to visit my old office and a lot of people are looking at retiring after 12/1 and into 2017. My biggest issue was whether to take a monthly pension or lump sum. The PBGC rate would not affect my monthly pension rate if I chose that option, so I could do that at any time.
My work load was pretty heavy. I had bought a separate computer just to do work at home on the dining room table. I seriously considered staying and just working a 40 hour week for a change and let the chips fall where they may. After 29 years, I could hardly be fired for showing up and working only 40 hours. But I took the lump sum instead and got out.

I'm done!

Had a long day today, but it was good. Got a lot of things wrapped up with the new director and even had the president stop by with a couple of cold beers, which was totally against policy, so I really enjoyed the gesture.

Wow, a lot of thoughts going through my head on the last trip home from the office.

I like it already though and it's only been a couple of hours.

OH, and thanks for the thoughts, guys!

Fully retired for three years now. I too had some trepidation about going into retirement. But, I took to retirement like a fish to water. Love being retired. I've not had a boring day since I retired. I get to spend more time with my best friend; my wife.

My advice: Commit your time to nothing for the first six months.

You'll wonder how you ever got anything done while you were working.

This one is so true.

My Brother and I discussed this earlier in the week. Now we are busier than when we worked. And both of us have not had time to fish....

Not complaining, taking care of our respective farms falls under labors of love, it is not a job. Hard work yes.

Congrats to those of you who have, or shortly will be retiring!

I'm at the other end of that spectrum. Mid 30's and no end of work in sight. I've had some interruptions between steady jobs, and have wondered if retirement would be that rough. I guess the stress of needing to cover bills and find steady employment isn't a factor.

"Miles to go before I sleep...", or in this case, retire!

it took me two tries to get it right, as well. Now, though, it's six Saturdays and a Sunday.
