I have been staying with John Grisham lately-right now I'm reading Testament-and enjoying it.

Yeah, he died of prostate cancer at the age of 47 I think.
Don't know how excited I am about Mitch teaming up with Alex Cross. They don't operate at the same level, and Cross, while VERY smart is not near ruthless enough or experienced enough militarily to run with Mitch Rapp. This guy is a *whole* other animal altogether...but I will read the first book to see what they do.

In the two or three Alex Cross novels I've read I get the impression he tries to walk the straight and narrow path. Mitch Rapp, on the other hand, doesn't seem to recognize there is a path.

As you keep reading you will learn more and more about his background and why he feels the way he does. He knows there is a path, but he's not hesitant to veer off of it if that's necessary to get the job done.

Keep reading! I think you'll fall in love with the Mitch Rapp character. I have.

I got tired of Bosch always on the wrong side of IA because some pol or D/C was out to get him. In the real world, he'd be a crossing guard after the first book. Gave up on him. Reacher is a comic book. Parker wrote to a formula, but at least he had a fair dose of humor. I'm robably in such a critical mood because I've been rereading Dashiel Hammet. Just finished Red Harvest, The Dain Curse, and The Maltese Falcon.

Dash Hammet was a tough old boy himself. Anyone that can work as a Pinkerton informant in Butte in the 1910's and 20's had to be able to take care of themselves. Too many lynching's and disappearances.

Just finished both of the newest in each series. In my opinion, Lee Child is looking for a reason to stop this line of books. Big dud. But, the new Harry Bosch novel is very good. Now, if Robert Crais could just get something going...

I agree. Elvis Cole and Joe Pike need to get busy!

Reacher, the man, the movie and the books have become formulaic, and boring.
Bosch's last few adventures have been worthwhile, but him being half-brothers with The Lincoln Lawyer seems a bit much; but, that's Hollywierd.

Clancy's books, done with other writers, were almost as good as the originals, but since he died,lack the quality of the originals. But, that's just me.

It is getting hard to find a well-written anything nowadays...it seems everyone is looking for the BIG homerun movie contract, so they write the way the movies are; lots of mindless action, unbelievable fight scenes, and not a lot of plot.

My own favorites are Patrick O'brian's Aubrey-Maturin series. My wife bought me volumes 1-17 for my birthday!
Jim Butcher's Dresden Files is another of my faves, although waiting between novels gets old! Harry Potter is another of my good reads, as are Bill O'really's "Killing" series.
