My Watch Just Died

I am a big fan of the Citizen Eco-Drive Atomics. The lazy man's watch. Solar powered, reasonably durable*, and they fully update themselves (even for DST). No setting, winding, batteries, etc. Just wear it! And it is always correct. What's not to like?

* Not pushing my luck, I take them off for handgunning and league shooting.
Amen. My buddy old bear laid one of those on me, and it's my "go to sea" watch.

I like a Timex for the Indiglo illumination. Timex has given me mixed results, though. If I replace the battery, sometimes the watch works again,
sometimes not. I guess they don't make 'me like they used to.

My preference is an analog device, white numbers on a black or OD dial. I have no need for the date; once it goes out of sync, I never bother to re-set it. I can always get the date from my cell phone, or from the newspaper. ( You can do the NY Times crossword online, but it is kind of expensive.)

My battery is starting to fail. It will be interesting to see if that's all I need, or if I am in for a new watch. If the latter, I aml keeping the black nylon band from my current watch. They can be hard to find, but they way outlast leather or links.

I think I've worn a watch every day of my life since I was about 5 years old, I can go days without looking at it but I feel naked without it.
Same thing here.
Even when I'm home all day, I just gotta have a watch. It's become a habit.
At the YMCA, I use it so we're on time for spin class and to time my intervals between sets. My wife (who doesn't wear a watch) is always asking me the time.
It's like a pocket knife, I've just always had one.

By God, you may find yourself without a cell phone one day but if you have a good watch on your wrist you'll still know the time.

I vote for a Casio Pathfinder. I have one I can't wear out. Solar powered, time adjusted by the atomic clock in Fort Collins, Co. It also has a compass, barometer and altimeter.

Pay the money and put one on your wrist too. You won't regret it.
For something like that I'll just wear my Garmin GPS watch. It's got all that and GPS. 'Cept it's not solar powered but it is rechargeable.
I'm looking for something I can wear everyday that's not so bulky, analog and can take a trip to the gym.

In the business world,a good pair of shoes and an expensive Swiss watch is still the universal statement of success.
Elsewhere, success looks something like this:

I eat when I'm hungry. I sleep when I feel like it. I get up late, and don't care. I take naps without regard to the time.

You want to act like a kid in a candy store then go to Bluedial. I've never seen so many brands or styles on one website.

You can basically use any search term you can think of...GPS...Atomic...Waterproof...Solar...Sport...etc.

I bought a Casio Atomic watch about 12yrs ago for working at the airlines.Don't even know if it has a battery. It hasn't failed me yet.And no stems to get dirt under in case you fall in a mud puddle.I'm speaking for myself having that problem!

If I was going to get a daily, wear it till it breaks kinda of watch 'd probably look at the Casio GShock line.

I like watches, and have found myself looking at them more often recently. Sadly the ones I like also always have $$$$$ figures to go with them..I've had many different brands, but only have 3 at the moment.

The oldest one I have is a Fossil, all silver, with a date, and with the press of the button the face changes from blue to black, or vice versa..I've had this one for about 14 years, and have gone without wearing it for quite a while. It was the perfect watch for what I was looking for at the time, since I couldn't decide if I wanted a blue faced watch or black faced watch. I don't know if it's even still made any more. It was a gift from a girl I was seeing at the time.

The next one I've had for about 3 years, and it's usually the one I wear most often. Its a Harley Davidson watch made by Bulova. I've always liked the Bulova line of watches, so this is the best of both worlds.

Found out my grandfather's fav watch was a Bulova as well. It's amazing how much we seem to have in common. Just wish I would have had more time to get to know him before he passed.

The most recent one I got last year for Christmas is an Invicta Lupah Special Edition. I like the shape and design but the yellow face is a bit brighter than what I usually like. It's got a great weight to it. No idea what makes it "Special" but it's grown on me.

And here's the one that almost depleted my 1911 fund

Watches are obsolete unless you consider them a decoration.

With a cell phone in your pocket why do you need a time piece on your wrist.

Anyone read newspapers anymore?

My watch is functional because my "cell phone" hangs on the kitchen wall and has a long curly cord. Also, I have a daily subscription to the newspaper!

Buy yourself the Seiko they are a very good watch. I have 2 Seiko's , a chronograph that's 19 years old and a solar one that I just received for 5 years of service at my company. I have a Timex that I purchased when I sent my Seiko of for a new crystal and battery and now it's my backup. I would rather go without my phone than without my watch.

I recently had to replace my watch a Seiko solar that I had for about 5 years maybe, While visiting my oldest son shortly after he came out of the coma, he wanted my watch. I don't know why but it was important to him, so I left it with him. I missed having a watch on my wrist so I bought the same model.
Like someone said, I feel naked if I don't have my watch, my wallet, my pocket knife. I tend to go for the basic watch 3 hands glow in the dark numbers stainless link band.

Snubby get a watch that fits your need and you can afford. Timex has been around for a lot of years and do produce good time pieces.

True story. I wore the watch my wife bought me on our honey moon for almost 18 years. I would get a new battery every January and the watch was always reliable.
I wore it to work on the day I retired, May 25th 2009 and when I got home I noticed it had stopped at around noon. That's about the time I went home that day.
I figure someone wants me to relax and not worry about the time so there she sits in my closet on the shelf. I have not worn one since.

Late to the party here, so a funny watch story first. Years ago just for a lark I bought a fake Rolex for twenty bucks, self winder, wore it for about 12 years. Then one fine day the fake wrist band broke, buddy of mine who is into real Rolex's gave me a spare Rolex band with the proviso that when the watch died I would return it to him. He got it back the next day! The fake Rolex died within twenty minutes of having the real band put on it. Those Rolex folks really have their act together with the don't even think doing that to our product fake killer tech.

Haven't seen my Seiko dive watch in years, my Harley Bulova died and the Timex my wife picked up for me has no class. Gonna look into the Seiko 5, thanks fellows!

That's why I'm thinking about the Seiko 5 sports. It's water resistant to 100m and shock resistant. Should be able to handle a coupla hours at the gym.
And it looks stylish too. So I can wear it when I'm dressed nice.
I have the Garmin Fenix GPS watch for when I'm wandering around in the woods and want to be able to find my way back. I'm wearing that 'till I get an everyday watch.

But a Timex expedition costs a bit less than the Seiko. Can definitely take a day at the gym, the range, working on 350-500 ton plastic molding presses (did that for a living for a while) and still keep accurate time. But it's not stylish and I don't really need a watch that rugged anymore.

Hmm...
I think I'll keep shopping. I don't intend to get a watch 'til after Christmas.
But I'm reasonably sure it'll be the Seiko.

I've always worn a watch since getting out of high school.I probably looked at it more when I was married. You know how women can get when getting ready to go out somewhere! ;)

Some of my jobs required me to be punctual and some were so bad I kept looking to see if it was time to go home yet. :D

My cellphone stays on a counter at home. The only time I have it with me is if I travel on the road some distance and have an emergency.I don't understand why some people are so affixed to something that needs to be recharged every couple days and wants to constantly do upgrades.Sometimes I think my cellphone provider is AOL with all the upgrades it wants to perform.

I've worn a watch 24/7, every day since I was about 10 years old. The Seikos are nice watches. I have a chronometer I bought about 1990, and a perpetual calendar watch that belonged to my late FIL. My MIL just passed away and left me a bequest to buy a "Breitling or something". It wasn't enough to buy a Breitling, so I picked up a nice Luminox XCOR GMT, and a couple of guns, including a SW22 instead.
