Governor Moon Clip Questions

Sorry in advance if these questions has been asked before, I am new to the group....

1. Do you have to use a moon clip for .45 Colt ammo?

2. Do you have to use a moon clip for .45 ACP?

(I have never used moon clips before.)

It's best to get a moon clip loading and unloading tool as they can be problematic to do it by hand, unless you have strong fingers. They are sharp.

+1 on what Gulfecho said.
There are a variety of moon/de-moon tools and IMO a device of some kind is essential for loading/unloading unless you use one of the plastic moon clips available.

Ez Moon Clips

These are Hydrocarbon/Polymer moon clips for the .45 acp rounds. They work VERY well and require no tools. I suggest you call them, tell them the exact revolver you have and order by phone. There are different models for the various Smith revolvers.

I don't have a Governor but have a pair of 625's and have used steel full moon clips, and both Polymer and hydrocarbon/polymer clips. Steel full moon clips are a pain in the "tuckus" and I have the tools...

Use the moon clips for the 45acp ammo and you'll never look back. You'll wonder why all revolvers don't use them. I would second the motion to get a tool to load and unload the clips. Your life will be a little easier. I shoot a lot of 45acp out of revolvers and I use a BMT mooner, but there are several less expensive alternatives. Good luck.

I love it. I only use this to load it. I load all the moons the night before I go to the range.

I like this one because you de moon in the tube and dump in your can.

The moon clip tool and the unloading tool is what I have/use. I had a store-bought unloader from Brownells but let a buddy have it and made me one from copper tubing.
