Is the .40 dead ? Let's see some !

Sig P229 40S&W. With an accompanying 357 Sig barrel, Bought in 1997. I re-load for it.View attachment 777168
I have the same combo in a P226. When a nearby PD made the switch to 9mm, the officers were given the opportunity to purchase their issued .40. I bought one from one of the officers and added a .357 Sig barrel later. Ammo has always been plentiful and sometimes at reduced rates. Guys at the range kind of smirk when I pull the P226 out of my range box but take notice when I touch of one of those .357 Sig rounds.

As prevalent as the 915 surely is, you just don't see a ton of the 411.

I snagged this a couple years ago on Gunbroker and it is in very high condition but I do believe that some previous owner slimmed down the outermost edge of the slide stop. It's about the thickness of a minigun slide stop, but has a bright finish that makes it look like it was altered.
My 411. It came with the original box, papers, and three 11-rd mags.

Your slide stop is also bright, almost "in the white" on the outside edge.

Our serial prefixes are NOWHERE near each other however! That's pretty odd considering the very time they made this particular model.

Could be the camera angle and lighting in the pics. But the crappy finish that S&W used on these "value-line" guns is chipping and fading much like a Commie-era Czech CZ 82.

Based on the serial prefix "VAB," I assumed I had stumbled into a later 411, one made at the end of the run.

I own several 40S&W cal guns: G27 Gen3, S&W Shield 40, Ruger SR40 and SR40C, Taurus PT940, Kahr K40 Covert, Tristar C100, Springfield XD Mod2 Subcompact, Taurus PT 24/7 Pro DS, Taurus PT140 Mil Pro, Taurus PT101AF.

My go-to-war guns in any caliber are the SR40 and PT101:

My 1991 4006. Nice shooter and easier to handle after I replaced the the Hogue grips that were on it with factory S&W.
I also replaced the factory Novak sights with a set of Trijicon Bright & Tough Night Sights which unfortunately they've since discontinued.

I have 2 40's and will probably pick up a few more if the deal comes my way. The Glock 27 is one I carry occasionally and is a great pistol. I also have a wolf barrel for it in 9mm. The S&W 4043 is one I picked up at a great price that came with 5 S&W mags. I know some people complain about how snappy the 40 is. The 4043 being an all metal pistol makes it very comfortable to shoot.

That's not a Glock...

Geez! When I opened this thread I did not expect to see it had gone to over one hundred posts! I have never understood the objections to .40SW. I have a 5-inch M&P that I really like, and a couple other .40s that I might say "are going nowhere." I am not too keen on the .40 in a compact weapon, which seems like the logical place for 9x19, but a full-size gun holding 15 or 16 rounds of .40SW seems like a pretty formidable weapon to me. I certainly wouldn't trade it for a like model in 9x19 that holds a couple more rounds.

I still love my 40 S&W's. Regular semiautos and a Ruger GP100 Match Champion 10mm but can shoot 40 S&W too.
Moon clip revolver. I fixed an ammo can to haul my DIY moon clip tray and loading tools. The decoration is a moon clip not a flower from Bikini Bottom or anything hippie related. Para-Ordnance (Canada) P16 40 cal USBP Commemorative (also have the identical gun in 45 ACP.)

Bad photo, I know but . . . . . below are 3 of my mine. Have a Glock 23 somewhere also.

The Colt is/was a Delta Gold Cup 10mm, but I had a Bar-sto .40 barrel fitted to it. I shoot it as a forty mostly nowadays. The Sig is a P229 and the CZ is a 75B.

I enjoy shooting my .40's , always will . At least until Arthur visits and I can no longer rack their slides , but that goes for other calibers also . I know there's all sorts of arguments saying the .40 is leaving us , but I don't see it . Look at the 10mm , that was the same way . Let's see those pictures , then at least we can put it to rest , at least here on the best forum around . I only included my PC .40's , but include any you would like .
I pay little to no attention to what's popular and selling or what ammo is flying off the shelves, or what the gun magazines are pushing!
I look at ballistics, bullet caliber, weight and velocity. That tells me all I really need to know.
The 40 S&W still has what it takes!

I've always thought of a .40 as a rose' wine. If you can't decide between a red or a white (9mm, .45acp) you get a rose'.

Like Fastbolt, I have almost as many .40's as I do 9mm's. I got into the caliber when my agency transitioned to its first semi-automatic duty weapon and they chose the .40 S&W caliber. I was very happy with the caliber and still am a fan. I still have my duty Beretta 96, a Star Firestar, Glock 27, Kahr K40, Novak Custom Browning Hi-Power, Duty Sig P226, P226 Tactical & a P229, S&W M&P 40 and a Novak Custom Colt 1911. I found the .40 S&W a good balance between the capacity of the 9mm and the mass of my beloved .45 ACP.
I have four of each…40's all handguns, two of my 9mils carbines.
