Is the .40 dead ? Let's see some !

As prevalent as the 915 surely is, you just don’t see a ton of the 411.

I snagged this a couple years ago on Gunbroker and it is in very high condition but I do believe that some previous owner slimmed down the outermost edge of the slide stop. It’s about the thickness of a minigun slide stop, but has a bright finish that makes it look like it was altered.

Yes, the 40 is dead. If you look at ads for Classic, Aim, & Atlantic, the LE trade in surplus 40 cal Glock 22 is $50-$75 less vs a 9mm Glock 17. They pay the same, but have to drop the retail price to get them sold. The good thing is due to the low demand, there will always be 40 cal ammo. GARY

I have a Model 411 which is my preferred sidearm, and I also own a model CS40 which is the weak side backup. I could not be more pleased with them.

I am so thankful for people saying that the 40 is dead, because this widespread superstition has allowed me to afford and own both of these excellent weapons!

165 grain Ranger Bonded HP at 1150 fps will never go outa style.
180 grain GDHP at 1050 fps will never go outa style.

Kind Regards!

I had a 646,4006 and sigma all are gone only one I liked was the 4006. Also had a 1006 also gone.
I now have two M&P a full size and a compact that are convertables between 9 and 40. I have two dedicated 40"s a Browning Hi-power an STI edge. In keeping with my desire for continuity of operation, the latter 4 all have thumb safeties.

Slide stop can be easily replaced on the 411... https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1...GDBOtJsmm7JKEFXS3Qrp8GJ7GIXNPXo3k1&pid=211960

I have a Ruger Police Carbine from 1997 back when 40 was everywhere. Lots of PD's carried these in the trunk of their patrol cars and/or a shotgun in the years before AR15's were used.

.40 was one of those instances where I had access to an abundance of ammo and needed something to shoot it in. The organization that I worked for provided me with a significant amount of .40 caliber ammo, even after I gave away 4,500 rounds to coworkers, I probably still have 7,000 to 8,000 rounds of factory ammo. I ended up with a Glock 23, Glock 27, HK USP.Compact, a Kimber Custom II, a Ruger PC4 and a Ruger Vaquero, all chambered in .40. I was afraid I'd wear it out if I only had one.

I carried a Beretta 96 (in .40 S&W) in uniform for about a decade, but didn't buy my own until the "Great Ammo Shortage of 2008", when the only caliber to consistantly be found on the shelves of my LGS was the lonely .40 S&W. It was well worth the investment to be able to continue to shoot, when others were spending all their free time hunting down other calibers (ammunition) that were nowhere to be found.

Sig P229 40S&W. With an accompanying 357 Sig barrel, Bought in 1997. I re-load for it.View attachment 777168
I have the same combo in a P226. When a nearby PD made the switch to 9mm, the officers were given the opportunity to purchase their issued .40. I bought one from one of the officers and added a .357 Sig barrel later. Ammo has always been plentiful and sometimes at reduced rates. Guys at the range kind of smirk when I pull the P226 out of my range box but take notice when I touch of one of those .357 Sig rounds.

My 411. It came with the original box, papers, and three 11-rd mags.

Your slide stop is also bright, almost “in the white” on the outside edge.

Our serial prefixes are NOWHERE near each other however! That’s pretty odd considering the very time they made this particular model.

Could be the camera angle and lighting in the pics. But the crappy finish that S&W used on these "value-line" guns is chipping and fading much like a Commie-era Czech CZ 82.

Based on the serial prefix "VAB," I assumed I had stumbled into a later 411, one made at the end of the run.

I own several 40S&W cal guns: G27 Gen3, S&W Shield 40, Ruger SR40 and SR40C, Taurus PT940, Kahr K40 Covert, Tristar C100, Springfield XD Mod2 Subcompact, Taurus PT 24/7 Pro DS, Taurus PT140 Mil Pro, Taurus PT101AF.

My go-to-war guns in any caliber are the SR40 and PT101:
