A waaayyy back in the year 2000 we replaced our furnace. A year after that we wound up getting a new air conditioner. For the last 5 years we have been living on borrowed time. We have needed to replace them both again but finances are not exactly conducive to major expenditures which that would certainly be one.
We have a terrific heat & AC guy. We started out with his dad about 35 years ago and now the son has take over and every bit as good as his dad was. And even though no body even makes parts for our antique system anymore he has done wonders at keeping us patched up and running. But we couldn't relax because we knew the end was near.
Not always but sometimes small miracles happen and life cuts you a break. We recently got a small windfall which allowed me to make a long overdue contribution to this site. I've been wanting to do this all along and it sure felt good to finally be able to swing it.
We have a list of things that need attention around the house and we have been discussing our priorities for a couple of weeks. We decided to go ahead and replace the AC and furnace NOW before the triple digits of August are upon us. We just didn't believe we would make it through another summer.
They showed up at 8:30 AM yesterday and rolled out at 5:00PM. Now we're all set. New super efficient system and a new fancy digital thermostat. Our old one was original and put in when the house was built 43 years ago.
Both the old units were completely worn out and the guy said they should have died years ago. He couldn't explain how they were still running.
Just got off the phone with my electrician. He will come out next week and take care of a couple of thing and then all that will be left is to replace the deck.
When you live in a house for 38 years replacing worn out appliances and roofs gets to be kind of routine...but still not a lot of fun.
Sometimes it just feels good to get the heel of the boot of oppression off the back of your neck.
