Trying to explain to those who have no interest in guns just what the attraction for having them is;.... near impossible.
Aside from the obvious, "it was granpa's" or I love to shoot,/ tinker with, trade around, or challenges to cook up accurate reloads, sometimes the very simple truth of, "having it", is all that is required.
The truth of that for me hit home two weeks back when looking at a Ruger 10-22 target, heavy .920 barrel in S S.
I commented to the clerk, a young lad toting some kinda plastic do-hicky of a gun, that I didn't know quite why I wanted the Ruger, as I had one just like it in blue from nearly 10 years ago that I hadn't shot yet.
He stated in an all knowing manner, (as youth will do), that if I hadn't shot it by now, I probably never would.
In actuality, he probably couldn't tote the lead I've shot down range, but I let his comment slide.
The fact is, as I thought about why I wanted the thing, simple enough, I like knowing I HAVE IT.
