Decision finally made

Lately, I have been wanting a more potent round than the 9mm in my Glock 17 affords. I've had the G17 for about two years and I really enjoy shooting it, but I wanted something bigger. I considered getting a S&W .357 or a Ruger .357, but I finally decided to stay with a Glock. After considering all the available options, I settled on and ordered a Gen 4 Glock 21 in .45ACP. This gun seems to offer all I wanted. Any comments on my decision?

Whatever floats your boat they are both great pistols. Can't have too many! (I guess if you fill up your house to the point they are 6 foot deep and you only have a little tunnel to get to the john you might have too many).
Same manual of arms so you can train with whatever ammo is the most readily available.

I went with a G22 so I could use everything that the G17 uses, plus I have the .357Sig and 9mm barrels to use in it.
You can't argue with a .45 acp though.

I don't think you can argue much with a 9mm either. I don't hear too many stories about 9mm pistols failing to take care of perps when the good guys use them correctly. Millions of military users are winning and losing wars with them. Plenty of cops using 9mms as well.

I actually switched off .45 ACPs for that reason, dumped my .45s except for the CS-45 which is special to me for other reasons. Okay, I usually carry a .38, I'm not too concerned about those rounds failing me either.

There's potent and then there's potent. If you want a .45 get a .45. Whatever floats your boat. But your 9mm was plenty of gun for personal defense purposes.

I got an iwb kydex holster from concealment express and I think it's going to be a good choice. I may get one for my G17 too.

I did not give up the G17. I really like it. I have always wanted a .45 and the G21 will simply increase my arsenal. For my concealed carry, I use a Ruger LCR in .38 special caliber.

I've owned both a Glock 21 and a 30. .45 Glock have a "fat grip" and I don't have small hands. The .45 FNX fits better and you don't need to spend double for the "tactical" model to have a 15 shot .45. Joe

I went from a Smith 36 to a Glock 19 to a Citadel 3.5cs.

I like Glocks and own two, but I prefer .45acp, and a Glock 21 is WAY too bulky for me to carry.

Also the previous versions were too big in the grip and had too long of a trigger reach for me.

For years, I tried to find a Glock 21SF in a store to hold in my hand. I wasn't able to until the last few years. Then last year I was able to handle a Gen4 on the weekend Cabela's opened here. It's just barely small enough for me with no inserts.

I'm going to stick with a .45acp, but in an M1911, either 3 1/2" or 5".

In reality there is nothing in it between the 2 but if you believe the 45 is better then you should have done it.

Did you shoot one before you bought one ? have you shot a 45 even ?? More power possibly harder to get 2nd shot off on target..

Heavy with a holster even a very light weight one weight will be 2 1/2 pounds .. carrying a second magazine usually an extended one on the off side another 3/4 of a pound or more .. end of the day all of it will feel 3 times that heavy ..

I'm a little confused as to what you're using it for. Is it a duty gun? I assumed when you said you wanted a more potent round that you meant for personal protection. If you carry a .38, then what was the point? The paper doesn't know the difference.

If it was just to "increase your arsenal," then I'm all for it. Keep doing that. It's fun!

I was in the Marine Corps and qualified as expert with a 1911 so I'm pretty familiar with a .45. The G21 is not quite as hefty as a 1911 and my holster is a light weight Concealment Express iwb kydex. I'm really excited about this rig. I currently carry a G17 and do not mind the extra weight.

The 45 acp is a great choice.

I lean towards a 1911 design because I'm old school, I've been shooting them for more years than I want to remember and in my eye it looks more business like . O.K. I'll admit I think Glock's are ugly .
That said , I don't own any Glocks either , so I can't speak ill of them.
Just because a girl is homely that doesn't mean she wont make a fine wife.

I'm sure the Glock in 45 acp will serve you just fine, It's good to have a 9mm and a 45, after all " Variety is the spice of life."
My 9mm is a 1943 Walther P-38....real old school !

I've owned a G21 gen3 for years and carried it once in awhile IWB with a MIC holster.
My main carry 45ACP is my G30SF when I want a little more than my G43 has in round count and stop em in their tracks power.
Congrat's on your 21 purchase. Great shooting gun.

Agree with your thoughts on the G30SF. I've been carrying one for about 1.5 years now, and it's kinda comforting to have that amount of firepower on hand. Recently bought a Shield .45 and for a while put the Glock on the back burner, but it's now back as my main carry pistol. It's a chunky, hefty little pistol that feels good in my hand. It's also the easiest pistol to disassemble and reassemble that I've ever had.

And a big plus for the 30SF is the G21 mags fit and work out great for spare carry mags.

To the OP sorry for the drift, but for your next gun get a G 30SF.

Nothing inherently wrong with the 21, but it's a mighty big pistol. I wouldn't carry either the 17 or the 21 as a CCW pistol, but that is just due to their physical size. Either caliber is just fine. Glock 19 is about as big as I go on semi's . . .

I agree with the other posters. There's nothing wrong with a 9mm hollow point.
