With Memorial Day fast approaching, I thought I'd show this shot I took at the Vietnam Wall in DC in September, 2015. I was accompanying a WWII vet on an Honor Flight to view the WWII Memorial. I call it "Reflection at the Wall."

This is one of the things I found most interesting when I got to visit the Wall back 20 years ago. One of the pics I took back then was a closeup of some of the names from a lower angle so that the clouds could be seen in the reflection.

Two Squirrels

Every morning for weeks, this squirrel would come down out of the maple tree and perch on top of his concrete brother.

When I put down some fresh mulch, I had to briefly move the concrete squirrel. When I put it back next to the tree, I must not have placed it just right, because the squirrel never returned to sit on it again.

One of my favorite shoots ever is of a rabbit and a statue of a rabbit. The real rabbit is on the right.

I believe what you have there is one of the many wasp mimic flies. There are quite a few of them. They tend to have shorter antenna than wasps and the heads have that "made up of all eyes" look to them. Here is a sample from our back yard that was easy to catch since it was laying eggs at the time.

I believe you're right. Thanks. I had no idea about "wasp mimic" flies. I looked them up. And apparently some of them feed on nectar and pollen just as real bees do. So I guess they do their part in pollinating flowers, too.

Remnants from a city with a past

These two pictures are from turn-of-the-20th century Bisbee, Arizona, an old copper mining town in the southeast portion of the state.

The first picture is of some old doorknobs that still remain in use there.

The second picture is of a melted pharmacy bottle that was found in the smoking ruins of the great fire of 1908 that almost totally destroyed that city.

Bisbee is close to my heart. My mother was born there in 1912, and my maternal grandparents are buried there.
