Just Ordered an M&P Sport II and I'm Cool (New Member)

Just man up and tell her already. What is this "ask" stuff? Tell her you bought yourself a rifle and a pistol, and you are taking some classes. Start with hunter education... $15 and covers firearm safety and handling.

Or maybe start with some first aid classes in case she shoots you for buying more weapons without asking.......

This is feeling more and more like a trolling thread. It has been three weeks since this started. There has been consistent input about 1/ taking classes and 2/ telling the wife.....and it doesn't seem like any of that has been acted on.

The big reason for bolting down a safe is to slow down any burglars. Anything that is made can be broken into with enough time. But time is crucial to a group of thieves and slowing them down any way you can adds to the chances you won't have your stuff robbed. If it's going to take 10 minutes to knock your safe over that's big to a thief. They want to get in and out as quickly as possible.

I mean I Now Have a 1,000 lb. safe it's going to go inside. Can't get much safer than that. I'm not planning on shooting anyone! BUT, if something ever did happen, at least I have a way to protect us.

She says we live in a safe neighborhood, and I said, that's what everyone says before their house gets broken into.
I told her what am I going to do if anything does happen? Hide in the closet and hope I don't get my *** kicked or shot? Or God Forbid, anything happened to our family....................

Does your wife plan to keep your balls in the safe or just in her purse? :D

You have to tell her how you feel, make her understand that your family's safety and security at home is YOUR responsibility. The police will not be there to prevent your family from being crime victims. Cliche time - "when seconds matter, the police are minutes away."

Your wife believes you live in a safe neighborhood? Ha! You live in a neighborhood the criminals haven't targeted enough to make the residents feel uneasy.
Every home invasion or other crime against homeowners in DFW I make sure my wife knows about it. Our "safe" neighborhood doesn't make her feel as comfortable as it used to, and while she isn't interested in shooting yet she is on board with increasing security around the house.

You need to make sure your wife understands that your "safe neighborhood" is where the criminals are targeting because you got the stuff they want!

If you don't want to come completely clean yet about the AR and accessories purchase, then ask your friends who own firearms already about keeping them for you until the wife is more receptive.

As far as the Father's Day present, tell her you've thought about it and you want to take a couple of handgun classes.

THe Eagle Has Landed!!!! the Eagle has Landed!!!

Getting Safe installed tomorrow and I talk to my wife. I say can I get a Gun???

I said for Father's Day let me just get a gun. I said We have a SAFE!!!

She said let me think a minute. Why do you want it? I said 99% for shooting for fun and if anyone ever breaks in.

She said You can have one but it stays in the safe unless your shooting it. Don't be having it out around the house. I said how am I gonna clean it.

She said clean it at the range. I said they don't allow that. Then I decided to shut up and take the Victory!!!!

Finally!!!!!!!!!! I only asked that previous time. I guess she thought about it. She asked where am I keeping the ammo? I said the safe!

So anyway, this just happened tonight. The Safe helped a little I think and several of the guys in my church group have guns so she's like if he wants to shoot he may as well have a gun.

Then I got excited and said maybe no one ever breaks in. I hope they don't. But at least if something ever happened I have a way to protect us.

Then I said they have a tactical light with a Green Laser. If you shine a laser in someone from far away it's a pretty good deterrent.

Remember, I already HAVE a Stream-Light Laser and Tactical Light.

So now I just have to one day show up with a gun (the Springfield XD Mod.2 9MM Bi-Tone I already bought) or put it in the safe and say I finally got one.

As for my M&P AR15. That's a Dog for another Day. One Victory at a Time. Walk before you Run.

Eat your Eggs before you ask for the Bacon.

I feel Better. I shouldn't have been so sneaky but all's well that ends well.

I am going to try to take a class and she would like that because she probably thinks I'm a dip**** when it comes to being a gun expert. Ha Ha

Happy Early Father's Day to me. I told her I don't want a present, just her to be Ok with the gun and I told her I'd be extra careful and that every gun owner is the same way. Even on YouTube people are extra careful on video to make sure the guns cleared and they don't pop it at anyone. I'm scared carful. Because I'm still learning and don't want to do anything dumb so I always make sure I am deliberate in my actions and safety measures when I'm handling any gun.

I'll shoot the AR soon!!!! That's going to be a secret throw her in the trunk range outing because I am dying to shoot it. But I only **** my XD 9MM 1 time so I'm going to work on that next time and I'll get my AR going soon!

Thanks for the Info, Support, and Advice.

Happy Wife, Happy Life!!!

You got it into the house, right? If it can be taken into the house by a couple of guys, it can be taken out of the house by a couple of guys.

Thieves steal Lubbock man's safe with about 30 guns inside - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

You bolt it down for a number of reasons... to keep thieves from just taking the whole thing, and to keep thieves from moving it to get a better angle to try to pry the door open, or keep them from trying to puncture the steel and peel it away from a corner.

How many safes are stolen or pried open every yr very few I'm betting ,his shotgun wasn't bolted down an it survived 12yrs haha ok I'm done.sure I'll hear only takes one time

Good for you, now be safe with your weapons so she doesn't regret it.

If you Google "stolen gun safes", on the first 2 pages of returns, you will find 8 news stories about safes being stolen from residences.

Um did you look at the dates? Couple a yr out of tens of thousands I'd call that very few

She's in!!! Man there is NO WAY I could have even remotely done this!!! This dude was so nice and a GREAT guy and strong and he and his partner had a hard time. Took well over an hour. Need to swap a GFI outlet that has no plugs, just a reset switch to one with 2 110V outlets.

Looks nice. It's big but if it was Taller I would have liked it. I have the space to go higher. This is 60", but 72" would have been even better but I ain't complaint. It's nice and a long time coming. Been looking 2 years!!!

Also, Any Safe can be broken into. They just went to a house where theirs cut open the side of his safe with a torch.

The right tool ma and you can do it. BUT, IF they torched mine my Alarm would be triggered!!! Has a heat setting that I can set to trigger at any temperature. So if the heat comes, it's going to contact me within 5 seconds and then I'm contacting the police or shooting someone in the knee cap.

It looks as if this post might pass up "THE BROCCOLI" post count in THE LOUNGE forum. :D

http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/288440-forum-official-broccoli-thread.html?288440=#post136919432

Not Bad for my FIRST POST!! But it is ALL because of YOU guys!!!!!!!!

I give the Glory first to God but for this Post, it all goes to y'all!!

It's been a Blast!!!!! Thanks for all the funny, intelligent, kind, experienced replies and exchanges we all had. I learned a lot and it is funny I bought 2 Guns, including an AR15 and then after I ask my wife, who's usually pretty laid back, and she gets all crazy and says a Huge NO!!!!!

Actually, she said no and I already had my pistol, and then two days later my AR15 came and I had to sneak it in the house. And still hidden behind my bookshelf in the box I haven't even took the red thing out, that's jammed in the chamber yet!!

All's well that ends well, and it's nice to have the safe Inside.

Thanks Again to All my Fellow Smith and Wesson Forum Members. Stay "SAFE".........

I'm trying to think of things to put inside the safe temporarily, just to have fun. Like a shirt or my watch or something?

Honey I need to get my special shirt out. Let me go to the safe where I keep it. Then I'll have it hanging up and it will be all lit up with the Blue LED Lights, and it will be real dramatic when I turn the steel handle and open it up.

Then I'll tell her, iron this thing!!!!! It's wrinkled!!!

I'll report when I shoot mg AR15. I may put it in the safe and take a few pictures. I probably should just lay low. I'm already telling everyone here I have a safe. Probably NOT the smartest things to do. I know we're on a forum incognito to a degree. But still!!!

Man that Safe installer today was so NICE!!! I got home right at 2pm, but he texted me and I missed it and had arrived 20 minutes early. So when I walked in, the safe was already moved from the garage, inside the house, and into the closet. Probably better because I'd have been hovering and watching so they didn't mess it up, but my wife said they had it protected and used the original box over the safe to protect it. I sent lots of pictures prior to them coming to give them an idea of their options. They used boards on each cement stone step, and took the route of up the driveway, into the street, and down 9-10 stone steps to get through front door.

They Didn't go through Garage and up some wooden Steps, much too tight of a turn once they saw it in person.

Once in the closet putting it against the wall (Had normal molding) BUT One thing that bugged me was the power supply cord connected and came out the bottom right of the safe. OK fine, BUT, instead of having a right angle cord that was flat, the damn thing stuck out, so the safe was too far from the back wall because of the plug.

I stopped them and said that won't work guys, and suggested let's cut a hole or area in the dry wall where the plug sticks out, so the plug sticking out the back of safe, goes inside the wall and allows the safe to be flush. I told them it's bolted down and ain't moving, so we would never see the hole in the wall for the plug ever again anyway! He said that's a good idea so while I looked for a box cutter, he found his chisel and cut out a space for the plug that stuck out. He then bolted it down and put a few shims under the front of the safe. Also just FYI, he drilled right through my carpet and into the concrete slab. He didn't cut any hole in the carpet where the anchors went through, just drilled right through. and he does it all the time. Sharing just in case any of you guys ever do it that's what he did. It only had 2 Anchor points. He used his own Anchors. The ones that came with the safe were not the kind I wanted and cheap.

We shot the breeze an hour while doing the install. It was much harder and time consuming than I thought! and I offered them water over and over and they kept saying no. I finally just gave them some. After they finished, I said what do I owe you? He said $250 is fine!!! Well below the quote and it was supposed to be $5 a step. He went down 10 steps. So he was being cool and gave me a great deal!!! Especially for ALL the work the 2 of the guys did. Plus it was 45 minutes away from his business. I at least paid with a check (never use checks much anymore) so he wouldn't get a 3% credit card fee. It's nice when you meet Good People and He and his Partner were Good People.

I was making them laugh during the install. He said to his partner while moving the safe, give me a few more inches. I said, that's what my wife told me. Ha Ha.

I have this huge safe box but my daughter wants me to keep it because she wants to make a house and play inside it and then my wife told me to cut all the pieces that's a gun on it when I throw it out to the trash so nobody knows what it was, I guess she smarter than I thought.

She also said she has no desire to ever shoot the gun. I said if a burglar was breaking in and you had to protect our daughter, would you?

She said YES. But I just need to get her to the range. Honestly, my first time I wasn't Scared per say, but a little uneasy because it was my first time and all these guns were all over and going off.

I was shooting my 9MM for the first time next to this 14-year-old girl and her dad. She could out shoot me any day. I laid the gun down on the table, took a break for a second, and took my phones off (dumb move) and I wasn't paying attention she shot a round off nest to me and I jumped and nearly **** my pants, as I said some expletive!!!! Her and her Dad And my friends saw me jump and were all laughing at me. I just tried to act like nothing happened, but It literally scared the heck out of me. I wasn't expecting that, and all of a sudden.......BANNMNMMMM!!!!!

I need some practice at the range for sure!!!!

Thanks Again Guys!!!

Congratulations Bandit on getting the safe installed and the approval of the pistol... This has been a very interesting and entertaining thread to read!

Stay "SAFE".........

First...thanks to God. I appreciate you saying that.

Second....thanks for a terrific story.

Third....Out of all the **** youve said I took it all with a grain of humorous salt but I FINALLY got you on one that bugs me.
"Stay SAFE" great joke but paired with the comment about some piece of plastic jammed in your chamber..
EDUCATION TIME AGAIN:p
Thats called a "Chamber Flag"...self-explanatory. It assists you and OTHERS to determine the "condition" of your weapon at a glace from near or far. Very important. I use ones with a big "Remove Before Firing" flag on them. (Ebay)

Fourth...stop hammering her about shooting. She has to come to her OWN decision about it. If you want to nudge her I suggest "The Well Armed Woman.com" site.

Fifth....You DESPERATELY need to get some instruction:D

All good in the hood man! Congrats!

Thanks DAD! I appreciate all your advice and information.

I'm Good with just getting the OK to get a GUN. I still feel a little bad that I already have my gun. And, now I basically have to make up another LIE (let's call it what it is) to say I am buying or I just bought, the Gun I Already Bought 3 months ago!

I didn't want to mention this. But On top of all this and all my crazy stores. I got laid off 2 weeks ago. Worked at a Big Bank as a Commercial Lender. Little depressing, but they offered me 12 weeks of severance after I sign a release, payable in 1 lump sum. Plus I got my vacation pay and health coverage through end of this month. My wife works at a good company so I can add in her health insurance.

Just had a lunch interview this week with CEO of a smaller Regional Bank ($500 Million), the President that I'd be working for, and the head of HR. I didn't tell them I was laid off.

They liked me and I have a pretty good chance. Interviewing 1 more candidate that's less experienced. Not sure it's exactly what I want and you have to SELL and Produce (Banking, BUT it's basically sales). I'm happy or relieved I have something that could POP fast, but hope it's a good fit or I'll be back in the same boat again.

We have a nanny or babysitter for summer for our daughter, since we both work. Now I'm home, but we already promised her the job so it's a weird situation. She just thinks I'm working from home.

Back to my safe. I put my SafElert Wireless Alarm inside the safe and it works great. Texts me right away when door is open, any movement detected. I need to put my Ammo and guns in there soon, BUT, technically don't have a gun!? I need to just tell my wife I'm buying a handgun so I can show her the gun I already bought!!! Also, now that I'm unemployed it's probably NOT the best time to say I'm going to go spend $500 on a gun.

I have ALL my Ammo (800 rounds of 9MM and 900 rounds of .223) in 2 separate 50 Caliber Ammo Boxes From Cabalas.

Maybe she will get me a Gift Card or Money for Fathers Day that I can use toward my gun?

I know just how the original poster feels. Yesterday I got my big boy pants and picked up my first S&W M&P Sport II. This is my entry into the AR brotherhood. We have a gun show here in Kansas City today and I can not wait for the doors to open. So many toys out there (like holsters in your drawer) and so little time play. Thanks for letting me be a part of such an esteemed group.

If I were you I'd ask for my testicles back for Father's Day........ As long as you're not dipping into the rent/food money to buy it, I should think that after 18 years of "doing the right thing" you ought to be able to go out and buy a firearm without having to run around worrying like a mouse what the wife thinks. TELL HER you bought an AR and be done with it man.
Full disclosure: I've been married but once and then for 33 years and counting.... She buys her sh....er stuff and I buy mine.
