Something I seldom see, and, in my mind, would be a great rebuttal to anti gun ownership, is that the Anti's never seem to think about the U.S being invaded by ground forces--
The state of Wisconsin alone, has the largest standing army in the world and every one of them would put his life on the line in a moments notice---now, multiply that by 49---an invading army could never even begin to fight against those odds.
Yamamoto said words to that effect when he was told of the planned attack on Pearl Harbor---"We can not invade the United States, there will be a rifle behind every blade of grass"
It took a while, but they got their *** handed to them in the end, it just got delayed for a while we were building the Atomic Bomb.

Quite frankly, I'm definitely not an anti, but that's something I don't really worry about either.

And unless we manage to REALLY tick off the Canadians, maybe by beating the Canadian team for the hockey championship too many times, I doubt that "largest standing army" in Wisconsin will be called upon any time soon.

The OP may have referred this article where some one added up the deer license sales and found the 600K in Wisconsin alone added up to the 8th largest army in the world, twice as many as France and Germany combined... per the article. Add up the rest of the 49 and it makes one hell of a number!

As far as Tyrod's post this place seriously needs a sarcasm font so the incredibly literal can follow. Maybe backward slanted italic in bright yellow!

Speaking of reviewing, I would really like a source for that 96 million American gun deaths every day...
Strikes me as being a totally outrageous number!

It was a sound bite/quote by the Gov. of Va. after the Congressional baseball team shooting last month.......... LOL IIRC he said "96 million" 2 or 3 times in a press conference speech.

I miss the point on that one. Unless you are writing from a gun grabber's view. If I need clarification, please provide such.:confused::confused:

Gov. Terry McCauliffe of Virginia stated gun violence killed 93 million Americans every day, shortly after the shooting of Rep. Steve Scalize. He later said he meant 93 individuals , not millions, every day.

On the other hand, remember the questionable performance of the militia in the American Revolution. An army of poorly trained men, worried about their homes and families, no matter how well armed would suffer grievously at the hands of a trained army, with armor, artillery and air assets. That doesn't include the possible use of atomic or chemical weapons. The North Vietnamese prevailed against all of the above, save nukes and poison gas, but would the current American population make that sacrifice? After watching the evening news on any given night, I have my doubts.

At 93 million per day the US population of 326 million will be gone in 3 and a half days so best get your affairs in order.

Getting back to reality, over 10 thousand people are killed annually by drunk drivers. That works out to about 27 every day of the year.

Where is the outrage? That is equivalent to a Sandy Hook every day of the year. Why are the politicians not making speeches about limiting alcohol consumption or placing a 30 day waiting period on automobile purchases?

Another reason why it is absolutely imperative for the survival of our hobby that each and every one of us introduce a non shooter to the world of shooting. Even the most skeptical can usually be turned if shown in a friendly and gentle way.

Take someone to the range and teach them the fun side of firearms or someday there will be no range to go to......

It was a joke referring to this idiot:

93? If that's true, how many were killed by intended victims or police, or otherwise "needed killin'?" And how many of the rest were killed by people using guns whose possession by them was already illegal.

Gov. McCauliffe is a poster boy for reasonable common-sense restrictions on free speech. 7-day waiting period? May-issue permits for people who can demonstrate need? Required state-sponsored training? Gov. McCauliffe is not more entitled to free speech than I am to keep and bear arms, and far less qualified.

although "some" people should definitely have their alcohol consumption limited don't give them any ideas regarding more restrictions regarding autos. too many of them just sit around all day thinking up ideas on what other restrictions they can impose on us.

There was a Dragnet episode. Joe and Bill giving a talk to the community about how wonderful gun control is.

Man in the audience says something about "the armed citizen is the last defence against foreign invasion".

Gannon gives him one of those "why is this so hard to understand" looks, and in a tone of "BOY you're stupid, aren't you" says, "In this day and age of atomic bombs, do you REALLY think that the next war will be fought with RIFLES?"

I remember that episode whenever I read about how PRO GUN Jack Webb was.
