That look of disgust . . .

So I went to the range Friday and had a great time as usual. (Operative words are: "Great time as usual.")

Guy next to me looks at my two revolvers and screws up his face (that has to hurt on some level) and says,"They make auto pistols now."

I look at this obviously sarcastic, uniformed, and ignorant guy (substitute the word "fool" if you'd like) and I say to him, "I see you've never had the pleasure of owning a revolver. One day, when you get bored of all those autos you might read about and invest in a revolver. You'll get the pleasure of the old times and maybe even a piece of history."

Now, granted, this guy was about 25 years younger than me, and he's still at the stage where he thinks he's cool because he shoots an automatic. Good for him - I hope he's happy.

Has something like this ever happened to you? Did you ever pull on the disdain and disgust of your neighbor in the next position because you were shooting a revolver? I'd really like to know.

Thanks -

Rich

Yes, and I gave him my instructor card. Reeling in my 25 yd practice bullseye target, I pointed to his target at 10 yds uniformly covered in holes and said in my best helpful tone of voice "If you ever want to learn to shoot that XDM you have, give me a call."

I mentioned this on here before. I was at one range with a couple revolvers and I heard this rather young RO mention if he had his way no revolvers would be shot here. His problem was he grew up on the plastic autos and does not know much about Revs.
FWIW I was a instructor & RO for decades and had no problem working with all kinds of guns or people!:D

Other than that clown no problem and if fact depending on what I'm shooting I have people come over to talk/BS and check out my things. I have no problem letting SAFE people shoot my guns. It used to be the 29s were the most popular but lately the 547 really gets the auto kids attention. (most have a 9MM)

I think because I'm a female senior citizen in SC, people are universally polite to me (yes ma'am).
At the range, the unfamiliar plastic semi-auto shooters may stare or politely ask what I'm shooting, when they see revolvers or a lever rifle.
Sometimes the RSO asks to shoot a few rounds.

When I was next to the front door of my LGS doing the paperwork on a polished stainless CZ 75B, that was sitting in it's open case on the counter, literally everyone leaving the range asked about it. Even the black plastic fans appreciate a certain kind of bling.

I was at the range with a couple of my 629s and there was a LEO in his mid to late twenties in the lane next to me practicing with his Glock for qualifications the following week. What caught my attention was he ran the target out to 25 yds which I NEVER see from the semi-auto bunch. He did pretty well too. He looked to see what I was shooting and was obviously dumbfounded. "What are those?" I told him they were 44 mags, would you like to shoot one? I loaded one, showed him NOT to put his finger by the forcing cone and said fire away. He started looking the gun over and asked "Where's the safety?" I fought back the grin, told him the safety was his trigger finger. Never hit the target at 15 yds.
I thought it a shame that this young man had never experienced the joys of shooting a revolver.

I only shoot on my own property so I don't have that happen to me, but I did realize it might be time to retire when I was in the locker room and a new rookie came in and introduced himself. Nice guy. Then I put my S&W model 49 back up revolver on the bench and he looked over at it and said "What's that?"

That makes a sorta funny little anecdote, but I'm sure he knew it was a revolver. I'd guess he was wondering what model or caliber it was. Maybe even what brand, who knows.

No, but in all fairness, I've had them go 'click' instead of 'bang'.

That is not unusual when the hammer spring has been backed out, ground, or replaced with light springs. I understand the same thing happens with striker fired pistols when people go to far searching for a hair trigger.
