Where are all the 45 Colt 625s?

I too have a Model 625-9 "Mountain Gun" in .45 Colt. Like so many others, mine's not for sale. It is a very enjoyable revolver to shoot. I have been reloading .45 Colts for years since I'm into Cowboy Action Shooting and all my cowboy main match pistols and rifle are in .45 Colt.

What's not to like about a .45 Colt?

I purchased a 625 in 45ACP with a 5"bbl and a SS 44 mag cylinder from Brownells and shipped the lot to Andy Horvath at
Diagonal Road Gunshop in LaGrange Ohio and 6 months later...
I have a 625 in 45 long colt!
Highly recommended! :D

Pictures, or it didn't happen!

Can you still use 45ACP with moon clips with that modification?

I'd love a 45 Colt 625 but I'll be danged if I can find one. Where are they all hiding? There is NO PROBLEM finding a 45 acp version. But why someone would want a 45 acp caliber revolver over the amazing 45 Colt is beyond me.

:( Hope I can find one

While I admit I certainly love the .45LC cartridge... The reason I wanted the .45acp version was several fold. I'm heavily invested in .45ACP. 2nd, because Moon Clips are just damned awesome at making refills just as fast as a semi-auto for me. Lastly because I can and regularly do shoot .45acp, .45Auto-Rim, and .45Super hard cast loads from ccw to woods carry. If I ever feel the need for something that hits harder than a 255 grain hard cast pill @ 1100fps I can always send it to Clark Customs; and have them machine the cylinder out for the .460 Rowland for $100... Then I could all the aforementioned loads. Truth be told... I would like to have a 625 in L.C. as well OP to go with my .45acp version. The 625 is my favorite revolver and I've become a wheel gun nut in the last few years. I ccw my beloved "N" frame quite well might I add. Good luck on your hunt. I've had good luck with somewhat hard to find firearms with GB and more recently with theoutdoorstrader.com. Be sure and post pics when you get your .45LC!

Below: Pics of my 625. Sure makes for a great woods companion with these loads! 45 SUPER OUTDOORSMAN Pistol & Handgun Ammunition

Is this what you're looking for?

Here's my 625-6, I picked it up at a recent gun show. The seller claimed it was NIB, but I am not 100% sure - no discernible turn line - before I started dry firing it. . I passed on one a few years ago and immediately regretted it. I just dressed her up with new Ahrends grips and an old style thumb latch. I won't be parting with it any time soon.

FWIW, a couple months ago I picked up 25-13 Mountain Gun, but since it had the lock and the bluing is solvent sensitive, I flipped it soon after(with factory Ahrends grips, not those shown).

I saw a blued 45 today at a local gun store. Don't remember the dash number, someone else on here will know. It was the "Horse Thief" gun from when they did the one a month revolvers for a year. I think they were asking $1200 for it. But never came across a 625 so far.

I had a 625 MG once but decided to keep my 629 MG instead. In hindsight I would have kept both. Did the same with a 686 MG and am kicking myself today. My sad loss.

Gosh, I love this forum. I learn so much and love to see what everyone else is craving! This may be slightly off topic, but quite frankly, I believe that if you want a major caliber double action Smith or Colt or whatever, you get a .41 mag or .44 mag. If you want a .45 Colt you go with a single action, like a Ruger or Freedom Arms or Taylor Arms, etc. There is so much ballistic overlap that if we wanted to throw tradition to the wind we could just put every required caliber into a Glock if we had to (yuck)!

It's one of my favorites.

Now a Lew Horton 625-7, 3" full lug, dymondwood handles in a Vega pancake holster sounds like a great carry/ woods/ self defense package. Oh that's right, I got one!

I also have a 625-7 3" that I carry. Pictured below is the 625-7 by itself. The next one is a pic of the 625-7 in a belt slide holster flanked by two other 3" in .44 Special and .41 Magnum.

My solution was similar to Drgbike's. I used 2 629-1 guns to get mine. Bought a 4" and a 5" 45 acp barrels and reamed the 44 mag cylinders to 45 colt. Fit the barrels, which must have the barrel extension trimmed to clearance the longer 44 mag cylinders (same length as factory 45 colt cylinders). Also have to recut the forcing cone. On the 4" gun I cut the back of the cylinder for moon clips and it fires colts, acps and 45 win mags. The barrels I got only say 45 caliber anyway. I picked up one of the 629-1s for $500 and the other for $550. Barrels were around a $100 each and I already owned the reamer which is about $125 new, but you can rent one for $35 from 45 Colt (Long Colt) - 4D Reamer Rentals

Nope they are not collectable anymore, but they are very shootable.

All these "dirty dogs" on here like to rub it in. I too have been on the look out for a 625 or model 25 in one sort or another in my local area. They just do not ever show up at any of the 6 lgs's I frequent. Even looked at the last gun show in my area. Not a single one there. Obviously plenty of them out there though!

Most are in holsters, where they belong. Sorry, could not resist.
