Picked this up at a local shop. I've been looking for a nice P&R 13 for some time and just wasn't able to find one in good shape and reasonably priced.

So, I bought this one and took it home and cleaned it up and it looks virtually un-fired, unless it was an excellent reblue. Virtually no markings on the cylinder, breechface or topstrap and hardly a turnline on the cylinder.

I was hoping to get a bit of info on the markings on the grip and what people think of it... Virtually un-fired? Reblued?

My apologies if the pictures are too big.

13-1 serial number oddity

Additionally a small curio on this. The grips are numbered, but just slightly off.

DSC00071.jpg

Grip is numbered 8493X

Gun is numbered 8498X

I'm wondering if whomever stamped the grip misread the 8 as a 3

Outstanding!

Wow, you have certainly purchased a nice 13. I find they just don't show up very often at all the gun shows I attend here in Ohio.

Yours appears to have been handled very gently through the years and I would have doubts that it has been fired outside the
factory from all indications of your pictures.

Congrats on that nice looking Model 13-1

It doesn't look refinished.

Enjoy it and shoot it often, you won't hurt it.

I suggest taking the side plate off for an inspection and a fresh lube.Since it's previously owned you never know what was or hasn't been done on the inside.

I was fortunate to find a really nice 3" 13-2 last weekend that's recessed but not pinned 9D3306x(1981).On the inside the magna right grip panel is 4 digit # 2310.

It finished it's 5 day K1 kerosene bath and got a good fresh lube.It will go to the indoor range today along with my 3" 629-4 Backpacker.

Stay Safe

Looks like you got a gun that was barely fired. Appears to be a good factory blue job to me. Nice acquisition, and I bet it makes a fine shooter. Should point pretty naturally.

Thanks y'all. I did luck into a real gem. When I got it home and opened her up and cleaned it I was amazed at how a gun from 1978 (or so) could be so clean and seem virtually un-fired. The insides were dry but with no rust/corrosion or any debris/dust/crud at all. Having been looking for one for some time I did come across a couple that I almost purchased but most were a little bit rougher than I wanted, so to come across this one, for virtually the same price, was fantastic.

Will definitely get a good workout and a nice cleaning afterwards...

mod-10 and mod-13 I have a couple and seriously enjoy shooting them both, picked up as LEO trade ins and sooo functional.

Very nice I could find a place in the safe for that beauty. Enjoy your new find

great pics and congrats on a sweet gun. I seldom see anything in that good of condition. I'd make sure it's lubed and head to the range!

Looks brand new.
My first issue was this with a 6"bbl and the front sight filed sharp as a knife,as it was used for making a slash.
A beautiful example of S&W's quality!
