THE NEW MUSIC THREAD

One of my favorite songs.

Hearing the ping at the beginning had me thinking I wonder if the movie The Martian gave credits to Pink Floyd because when the Martian day changed you did hear that PING!! I kept expecting the rest of the song to start playing.

Every time you folks post one of these music threads, you make me think I am way too old (I'm not sure for what).

I went through the three pages here, and realized:
1. I recognized almost no performer except the old country stars, the Carpenters and, of course, Alison Krauss.

2. Never heard of Susan Tedeschi but I do recall Tom Petty died a couple of weeks ago.
Then realized I have never, to the best of my recollection, heard a single song he recorded.

3. Realized that if the songs or performer became widely known after I came back from the Service, I probably never listened to them.

4. I'm not sure why, just never had the interest. I listened to a couple of new songs on the Lounge this morning, really didn't like them.

5. I listen to old Country, Western Swing, old Rock, some Blue Grass (did I mention Alison?) and Southern Gospel.

I think this must put me out of the mainstream of this Forum. I guess I'll survive, but ....

Different strokes for different folks. It would not surprise me if a majority of the forum did not know most of the music I like. Looks like most of the music posted here in this thread comes from just a few of us.

Music is one of the main things that has kept me sane and helped me through the rougher parts of my life. It always has been a big part of me and I like to share it.

That makes sense to me, John, something you've always had an interest in, something that, perhaps, you can identify parts of your life with.

I think I really am different. Sure I can identify with "We Gotta Get Outta This Place" as my song from VietNam, but that's about the only one that reminds me of a point in my life.

I know I see folks here talking about TV shows I've never heard of. But I grew up (when we finally got a TV) with the TV OFF unless there was a particular program, listed in TV Guide, we wanted to see.

I continue with that today (not with TV Guide, though).

The TV is never on unless a program or movie one of us wants to see is on. There is no radio here in the house, except for a clock radio that sounds like mostly static. We wake up to the buzzer. ;)

But I can see if I'd grown up differently, I might not feel quite as ignorant as I do with some of these threads.

Hi Bob, the thread's open to all comers. Feel free to post what you like. I kind of like listening to "new to me" music. Have found lots of good music that way.

I like old rock, some southern gospel and bluegrass too. Jump in!
